SOURCE: Check engine light error code 480

P0480 Cooling Fan I Control Circuit Malfunction
-----------------------------

Chrysler has issued a TSB (#18-004-07)containing the fix for an inoperative cooling fan on 2005-06 Caravans and Town & Country vans with the 3.3L or 3.8L engines. The problem usually occurs after driving in heavy snow conditions where snow and ice form at the bottom of the fan shroud and block the fan blade. This condition also sets a P0480 code in the PCM. The fix requires a PCM reflash. If you have an inoperative cooling fan or a P0480 code, check the version label attached to the PCM. If a software update has not been performed since this TSB’s issue date of January 24, 2007, you should have the update performed before you start replacing any parts.

SOURCE: P0551 code on 2000 Dodge Durango

P0551 Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
There is a switch that senses the pressure of the hydraulic fluid which reflects how hard it is working (e.g. like when turning at low speed or when stopped). It then opens the switch (which is normally grounded) and a wire to the powertrain controller senses that and increase the idle speed accordingly so the engine doesn' falter. Here is an exchange I had earlier with another owner about it.
"The switch is located on the back side of the power steering gear. It is supposed to raise the idle speed when you are turning the wheels at low speeds when the system will require more pressure and thus otherwise drag down the idle. The wire to the switch is dark blue/light green (signal) and a black ground; and the signal wire goes to pin 45 of the powertrain control module. So you might check the connector at the switch and the connection to pin 45 of the controller, from pin 2 of the plug...
All I can add is that if you locate the two high pressure lines that run to the steering gear from the power steering pump you will find the switch right next to where those two lines connect to the gear. It no doubt just screws out and then install the new one. The manual says that you remove the electrical plug, lifting the locking tab carefully. Then it says to use a crowfoot wrench and extension to remove the old one. The steering fluid will run out so be prepared to clean catch it, and be ready to screw in the new one to minimize loss. If you catch the fluid in a clean pan you car reuse it. The torque spec with a crowfoot wrench is 12 foot pounds and you have to be careful not to exceed the limit or you may ruin the fine hydraulic threads on the steering gear and then you have a potentially expensive problem. So if you can't get a crowfoot that fits the sensor (when you buy the replacement you can see what the size it) and don't have an extension and a torque wrench you may want to let the shop do it. Make sure the electrical plug is in place with the locking tab engaging the tab on the switch. Refill the power steering reservoir. Start the engine and then turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed the air from the system. Use only Chrysler power steering fluid if you loose some of it."
I doubt it has anything to do with the fluid, unless the code started right after that. If the wire seems OK, then the question is the switch stuck open (measure that) or is the pressure really too high when you are driving at normal speed or not even turning the wheel. That would have to measured with a gauge. Let me know what you learn, please, or have further questions. Hope this helps I know alot of info but should help you please rate thank you

SOURCE: P0551 code on 2000 Dodge Durango

This is a common problem on the Durangos. Usually the Power Steering Switch leaks and wicks through to the o2 sensor causing a temporary short, hence your engine light code. The code is telling you that the o2 sensor is faulty.
Inspect carefully under the P/S switch and check all connectors beaneath it for oil seepage. Clean it off with brake cleaner. To reset the code in your computer you will have to disconnect and reconnect the battery terminals. Leave them disconnected for 15 minutes. Then reconnect. Not sure wether or not your brake lights went back off, but if they did not check the master cylinder and be sure it is full of brake fluid. Do this before disconnecting the battery so that if those lights did not go off they should after reconnecting. Good luck!
Please remember to rate this fix.

This may have altered the programming of the alarm or ignition cutout. Your car may have a body control module which may have been altered. It may be more helpful if you specify more details including what model car you have and if it has an alarm or engine immobiliser.

My car wont stay idling

Lets start with figuring out why the check engine light is on. You can get a blinkout of the the code by switching you key to the on and off position three times quickly and leaving it in the on position on the final time (note, do not take the key so far that it tries to start the engine). So start with the key in, and engine off, quickly turn the key to on, then off, then on, then off, then on and leave it there. Now watch your check engine light. It will blink out any codes that may be stored. The blinking will have breaks between each code and each code is a two digit number. For instance, blink short pause, blink blink, long pause, blink, blink, blink, pause, blink, blink, would be codes 12 and 32. I believe the final code is 55 and just simply means "end of codes". That should at least tell you if its an issue the ECU has detected. You can do a quick google search to find out what each code it spits out means. As for a guess as to why it isn't idling...I've seen everything from a failing fuel pump (inadequate pressure), to a clogged EGR valve cause this. Could be quite a few things unfortunately. Good luck!

Error codes for 1991 dodge spirit

Turn the key to run then off, back to run, then off, then to run and leave it on. The check engine light will be on and will then go off and then on again according to the codes the engine controler happens to have in it. If the check engine light was on when you stopped the car, then there is at least one code in the controler. The light will blink the codes like this.
Cycle the key three times and leave on on the third time. light on for about 3-4 seconds then goes out for about 2 seconds and then blinks one time and goes out for 3 seconds this is for the no.1. Then the light blinks 3 times and goes out for about 3-4 seconds. You have the code 13. You could have a whole string of codes in the controler memory. It could be something like this. key cycled 3 times, light on for 3-4 seconds, then blinks 1 time, pause, 3 times, longer pause, 2 times ,pause 4 times, longer pause, then 5 times, pause 5 times the goes out.
This is code ; 13,24, 55. code 55 isn't really a code. It just tells you it's the end of any codes the controller has.
If you disconnect the battery and hook it back, you will have code 13 which simply mean 'battery disconnect'. It will errace it's self after several starts if it's not disconnected again. If you cycle the key and you get 55, this means there are no codes recorded at this time.
You will allways get 55 when checking for codes wheather there are fault codes or not. The light on for a few second before the codes start flashing is only a bulb check. Some codes like 13 will not turn the check engine on, but but will leave a code for diagnostic purposes only. If you have the check engine light on and accellerate and the light begains to blink, then the controller is telling you that you have an engine miss and are running the chance of burning out you're catalatic converter if you continue driving. Sometimes its advised to disconnect the battery after you have recorded the codes.
This will erase all codes that are present but were generated by conditions that aren't pertanent to the present condition. and then the codes that come back are the real ones to address.

Engine light on need codes

Know any one with a code reader, I suggest going to a garage you trust and have them read the codes, some of the cheaper code readers will give you the codes but no explanation as to what the codes mean.
I am not sure if chrysler still does this or not,
turn your key to the run position 3 times in a row and watch for the engine light to blink, Ex if the engine light blinks three times then pause then two times you have code32

Check engine light came on and stayed on

Put the Key into the Ignition and turn from OFF to ON (not START) Position, which is right before Start and do this three (3) times. On the third time leave the Key in the ON (not Start) Position.
If you have a didgital Odometer look there for codes (example P 0123). There may be several so wait until it reads "donE". Record these Codes.
If you do not have anything reading in the Odometer window: Look immediately at the Check Engine Light and count the number of times the Check Engine Light blinks (on and off). There are two (2) digit blinks, then a pause followed by pause followed by more blinks. Record the number of blinks. The last set should be five (5) blinks followed by five (5) blinks.
Get back with me on what the blink counts were. (example 18, 23, 55).
Let me know if this helped, and provide me with additional information I requested. Contact me at FixYa.com using the comment section of tyour original Posted Question.

Engine light on dodge3.8 engine runs rough and idles slow 2001 dodge van

If you want to do it by yourself, I strongly recommend you to buy a manual book because there is a built-in self dianostic Check Engine light codes. And how to do it, just insert the key into the ignition and do it three times, Turn On and Off the switch but don't start the engine, and you will see the check engine blinking. Count the blink and start with 1-2 blinks, the next blink is to tells you where is the problem and it will end to 5-5 blinks.(BLINK is the CODE) and you could check in the book. If you know somebody has an OBDII Scan/Diag.,thats will be easy. ok
