Question about 1998 Ford Escort

The cars tends to stall when idling otherwise it runs ok. Could this be a clogged fuel filter?. Checked air filter and it's clean. The problem has been creeping up on the car for some months. When you stop at a light I have to put the car in nuetral to give a little gas to prevent the stall. Doesn't always happen but it's worse when car is cold.

Could be a clogged fuel filter, dirty injectors, dirty throttle body to a bad, dirty, or clogged Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.

cleaning out an air filter is not like replacing still can starve engine --need to also check possible tune up needed --plugs wires --look at cat converter possible clogging --also check and clean or replace egr valve if carboned up will cause stalling and or no start

Stalls when put into gear

many things can cause this. the most common problem would be that the timing is slightly off. (fixed sometimes by adjusting the distributor) it could also be a bad fuel pump (or clogged fuel filter) this would allow enough fuel to run the engine in park but not enough to run the engine under stress. clogged air filter could also cause this (not allowing enough air into the cylinders). I would change the air filter and fuel filter. then crank the vehicle and slowly turn the distributor (finding the best idle position) then see what happens. lastly replace the fuel pump.

I have a 91 chevy lumina it idles but as soon as you hit the gas it stalls

Have your fuel pressure checked. Also scan for trouble codes in the engine computer-use an OBD-1 code reader (on board diagnostics). The MAP sensor should be checked for proper operation. Run some injector cleaner through the engine for possible clogged injectors. Check your fuel filter and air filter.

My 2002 grand cherokee loses power on hills and acts as if it doesn't have a passing gear. It has 109000 miles.

Does it otherwise start and run OK?

Have you replaced fuel and air filters?

Check running fuel pump pressure, and also have fuel pressure regulator checked for correct operation.

What you describe sounds somewhat like fuel starvation, although severely impeded air flow because of a clogged air filter could possibly produce similar results.

Engine will not run, it starts and stalls. when cold it somtimes run ok till it warms up then stalls. replaced both o2 sensors , no change????

SCAN IT FOR IDLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEMS.BUT OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES TO YOUR STALLING IS BAD PLUGS AND WIRES CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER.IF ALL IS GOOD HAVE FUEL PUMP FUEL PRESSURE CHECKED IT SHOULD BE 41- 47 PSI.

Car running fine. changed fuel filter. now turns over but stalls,

If this had the problem before you worked on it then it could be bad gas. If after the fuel filter change, check the flow direction on the fuel filter and you may want to take off the filter and blow into it to see if it is clogged. Usually the fuel is looping around the system. Try taking off the fuel cap and start the car. It may be an air pocket and with the cap off it may eliminate the air pocket.
