The driver's side power window is no longer working. A couple of months ago, I noticed that the switch would occasionally do nothing. It was intermittent. Then, one day, the window was half-down, and I could not raise it. Switch did nothing. I finally got it up by physically yanking the window up a bit. It didn't really move much, but then the switch worked. I've been afraid to touch it since.
On the driver's side, there are two switches for the windows: one for left, one for right. The right one works fine.
Before my mechanic charges me an arm and a leg to fix this, I'd like to try it myself. How do I know if the motor or the switch is bad? Will a good car manual help me through the process?

Re: Power window not working
Most of the time the motor is bad. you can purchase the entire motor and track assembly which is what i would do. you can do this yourself and if you are fortunate enough to be near an autozone store they will often assist you for free as long as you purchase the part from them
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

You can't put up the front passenger window with it's own switch ? Did you check the POWER WINDOW RELAY in the instrument panel fuse / relay box ? An you checked POWER fuse 30amp same fuse box ? All window switches have direct power from power window relay !
Fuse Block - Instrument Panel
Left of the Steering Column, behind the storage Compartment
Sunroof Switch Assembly, Window Switch - Left Front, Window Switch - Left Rear, Window Switch - Right Front, Window Switch - Right Rear
I had the same problem recently. The dealership diagnosed the pblm as a corroded wire in the door frame that is responsible for all power windows and power locks locks. A simple rewiring and resoldering (approx. 150 CAD$) fixed the problem.
do any other windows work? do they work from the drivers switch panel? if they do, then power is likely to be present to the switch. if the driver and pass. switches are interchangeable, try swapping them. if all windows are dead, look for blown fuse first, then check switch and the socket/wiring harness connected to the switch. smell the switch, if it smells burnt, it probably is...
i would make sure the master switch is not the problem, make sure power and ground are supplied to the motor from the switch you'll need a test lamp, the light should come on by probing at the motor connector, light willcome onup position ,other pole will light in down position,no light ,no power bad switch good luck
dont know, but im having the same problem. my pass. side front wont work, and the driver rear wont work. its a 2005 ion 2 i suspect its the motors in both of them. i will let you know in a day or two, as soon as i check the parts yard to get a couple.
I know its not what anyone would want to here but sounds like a short. Best thing to do is first wiggle your key switch when the vehicle in in the on position then at the same time try to check to see if locks or windows are working. Then do the same in while the rig is running. If that dont work your ignition is fine and you need to take off door panels and check and wiggle all conections on window motors and lock motors and look for melted or burt wire or some that might have got hot. If all is good there you need to go to the back of the fuse box were the fuses to those items plug in and check there. As far as the service engine light goes either take it to the nearest Schucks or AutoZone and they will check it for free if not cycle the key on and off 3 times and on the 3rd time leave it in the on position look at your odometer light and it will flash a code remember that code and type Dodge then the code on yahoo search and it should tell you why your light is on Hintz whay sensor is bad. Hope this helps.
Remove the door panel on a non working window and at the window motor hook a multimeter to each of the 2 wires then try it at the master switch. IT should be 12V. You can also try hooking it to a battery one way is up the other is down. Usually if it is an intermittent power window it is caused by broken wires inside the drivers door flexible rubber between door and interior.
