It sounds like the rack is broken inside the column.The gears would bind from old,hard grease and cause the already thin pot metal rack to break.The steering wheel and the upper column has to come apart to replace the rack,brass gear and the actuator/gear.

It could have a weak or failing ignition coil. The other thing I can think to look for would be an exhaust restriction.. (clogged catalytic converter)

What about the fuel filter?? was it replaced?

Try starting the vehicle in Neutral. If it starts and jumps from the solenoid mounted on the firewall then there is either a circuit break or the neutral safety switch is faulty or the cable is maladjusted

How do ichange out the ignition switch on a 1989 ford bronco II


turn ign to on position and the is a button on the bottom that you push and it will allow the ignition key cylinder to slide straight out. real simple. turn the new on in thon position and press the pin in on the side and slide it in the column

Looking for bearing ajusting nut and locking key, for 89 bronco II 4x4 auto front hubs, holds the bearings and roters in place


you might want to check out the ranger station on switching to manuel hubs they will show you where the key is and the nut. it is a little pain the first time then you figure it out and its easy.

Weak spark + 1988 ford bronco


check the voltage of the b+ terminal of the ignition coil (primary side) with a cheap multimeter while cranking. low voltage to the primary will cause low voltage on the secondary. also recheck all ground paths from the ignition module. ensure good connection from coil to module. note: new parts are not "known good parts" until it runs.--> IG.MOD.
