Mike,

Could be a couple of problems. Check all around the head gaskets for any sign of leakage. This will only leak while it's running. Also check the hoses and thermostat housing gasket for signs of leakage. While the motor is running inspect the the clamps where the hoses connect and the entire hose itself. Lastly, check the tanks on the side of the radiator, also while it's running. The coolant system is under high pressure while running and often you'll see no leaks when the motor is off because there's no pressure.

Also check to see if the oil looks kind of milky. If it does you know you're getting coolant in there. If that's the case it's either the gasket or a cracked head. Good luck.

The intake manifold gaskets on these are known to leak. the coolant leaks inside and runs into a cylinder and is burned up in the combustion process so you'd never see an external leak. i assume its a 3.1 or 3.4 v6 both have the same problem

Tossing in my two cents on this common problem. On my 99 Malibu
V6 turned out there was a cracked cylinder wall so after the expense of replacing the intake manifold gaskets which did no good I had to get another block and start over. One ace mechanic said intake gasket problem, the other said a cracked head, both were wrong. Both noted that there seemed to be no coolant in the exhaust.

have a pressure test done on the cooling system to find the leak. It may be a blown hose , heater hose or welsh plug rusted out or a cracked radiator tank . The pressure test will tell the story.

White smoke is caused by coolant or water coming out the tail pipe. white smoke continues you have an internal coolant leak, i.e., cracked head/blown head gasket.

My car turns the light low coolant and when i turn it on it comes like smoke. i put antifreese again. but it keeps showing the ligth low coolant

I dont remember the lumina having a low coolant light.

It does have a low washer fluid light though.

You can see if you coolant overflow bottle is full. If it isnt, fill it to the hot or cold mark on the side.

Fill your windshield fluid too and see if the light goes out.

Good luck and be safe!

That's the low coolant warning lamp. Most likely just needs coolant level topped of.I would watch for spots on driveway. Also replace your coolant resevoir cap, they are cheap & common to fail.Hope This helps!!
