Question about 2001 GMC Jimmy

Gets hot,head gaskets were changed and head was checked for cracks,it was fine,also put in new water pump and thermastat,and fan clutch...what else could it be?

Could be a plugged radiator,have a shop put a flow tester in line and see if its flowing at capacity,hope this helps

My 2002 nissan frontier truck keeps getting hot after i have new head gasket ,hoses ,thermostat ,water pump ,clutch fan,radiator all new. any ideas? also has new heater core also.


do a coolant system pressure test to make sure no internal leakage -cracked head--- head gasket improperly installed --warped head -and recheck the fan clutch new doesnt mean free from defects

First, Ronald is an IDIOT! DO NOT power wash the engine EVER! If the engine is really hot and you spray ice cold water on it can crack the head instantly! Also, everyone knows' water and electricity don't mix! the ignition control module is $300. A little water on that and its gone!
If your car is overheating, you may need a water pump! The one you got, may have been bad! The rule is, as soon as a car overheats, the thermostat MUST be changed! A simple test would be to remove the thermostat and close it back up! A few dollars for the gasket is all you will spend! Try and run the car without it and see if it still gets hot! If it still gets hot, check the water in the radiator or resivor to see if the water is also hot. If its hot then the water pump is working and you need to check the fans! You can run a power wire to the fan to make sure they are working. There are relays for those also! If they are not turning on, that is most likely your problem! I rebuild VW's for a living!

Water is not flowin through engine and runs hot


circulation comes from the water pump,but the thermostat must also be opening and closing for this system to work properly.some where some thing is not functioning properly,with out a doubt in my mind and no your engine is not blown; make sure the cooling system is not air bound ,i do believe that there is several bleeders to render this problem ,now if the coolant light is on that usually means the reserve container is low but the level sensors also get stuck causing this type of situation,also the reserve bottle or container doesn't circulate,it just draws extra antifreeze when needed or when the engine over heats it catches back flow thats why it should be filled to the level indicated on the bottle ,good luck

Orginally, the temp gauge reads normal, drives fine, shut car sown and the reserve tank is boiling, changed the thermostat last night, let the car heat up drove it 2 blocks away, temp gauge shot up to hot...


2 blocks is fast to reach boiling.Take the cap off the overflow tank and fill it right to the very top with coolant.Start the car and watch for a steady stream of bubbles.If you see a steady stream you do need a head gasket or have a crack somewhere in a combustion camber.

sounds like blown head gasket in between cylinders,that isnt supposed to push out fluid,most likely blown head gasket,check with another mechanic u trust,take car back

CLUTCH ON COOLING FAN FREEWHEELING. COOLING FAN SHOULD HAVE RESISTANCE WHEN TURN WITH HAND WHEN ENGINE HOT.IF NOT FAN FREE WHEEL FAN CLUTCH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.IF COOLING FAN OKAY.YOU COULD HAVE BLOWN HEAD GASKET.YOUR RADIATOR AND ENGINE BLOCK NEED FLUSHING OUT.CHECK WATER PUMP FOR LEAKING WEEP HOLE IF LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP.

the head could already be warp, did you check the head gasket, do the block carry water plugs on the block
