Question about 1994 Ford Escort

1 Answer

1993 Ford Escort 4-door: Back-up and license plate lights are out. All fuses checked = okay. All bulbs ohmed out/visual = okay. All other lights are functioning properly (parking, brake, turn, headlight, dome, engine statuses). What's up? (Note: This service will not accept the fact that this is a 1993 model.)

The back-up lights would probably be a bad reverse switch at that point. I'm not sure what could be causing the plate lights if its not fuses or bulbs and all the others are working. I would highly recommend checking your bulbs one more time and look to see if the filaments are smooth or pitted. if they are pitted but otherwise appear to be ok they are in fact burnt out. I have even seen bulbs n that condition ohm out ok but still not work.

License plate lights do not work, why?

First check the fuse, if the fuse is ok, change the bulbs. If still no lights you may have to check the socket grounds with an ohm/volt meter.

License plate lights stopped working, tried license plate lights stopped working, tried replacing bulb, still doesnt work. is there a fuse to check? where is the fuse?

there is a fuse panel inside the car usually near the driver area, check the knee bolster (below steering wheel) close to the driver door, also check the side of the dash where the driver door closes.

I have a 2000 buick century back up lights aren't working, changed bulbs and notice that the license lights aren't working either. Checked the taillamp fuse it's okay. Is this the right fuse?

The back up lights may be on a separate fuse from the tail lights. The license plate light should be fused with the tail lights though. The bulbs are good on the license plate light too? Did you have the ignition switch on when you were checking the back up lights? It could be the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment or the switch is bad. Does the car start OK in both neutral and park? If so the switch adjustment is probably good, but the back-up light portion of the switch could be bad. That switch is located on top of the transmission, about right under the master cylinder for the brakes. You have to disconnect the shift cable lever from the trans to get the switch off.

tracing short circuits can be tricky you need a good electrical knowledge and a bit of luck.what items are not working when the fuse has blown? concentrate on these items first follow the wiring back from these loads looking for chafed wires . if you cant see anything put in a fuse and switch the affected loads on one at a time until the fuse blows when this happens youll know which circuit to concentrate on.

1996 ford explorer license plate fuse

I'm not to sure what one you did want license plate light or the tag light up high above your back door. I know I am reading license plate so I will say the fuse needs to be replaced. plate lamps need 2 light bulbs and the fuse box is under the steering wheel or under the hood there are 2.
in my book it said that it is a (194 trade number), I woulds change out bulbs and then fuse.
