It could still be a rod even if its full of oil. carbon build up inside the engine can cause a knocking sound but its probably a rod. does it go away after it starts?? if it only does it while starting, it could be leaking water in a cylinder after you cut it off and the next time you're cranking it, its trying to compress the water

Crown victoria making knocking noise

Listen to the engine, if the noise is down low it is rod if it is up high it is valves. IF it is rod knock it will eventually throw the rod.

Can rocker arms cause heavy knocking noise

what is the motor from? Typically if you changed out all those parts already and its still a heavy knock, you're looking at crank bearings. How did you change the connecting rod bearings without the crank bearings? or are you referring to something else? I would assume its connecting rod bearings are the issue, if main bearings go you would see an issue in oil pressure.

I have a 1995 chevy lumina sedan, 3.1 v-6 engine. suddenly started knocking LOUDLY when running. (sounded like when an engine has no oil in it.) i checked oil, which is fine, other than just dirty. i...

As for oil not milky , this could still have a crack or bad headgasket just going through the exaust port in the head. As for the loud KNOCK may be your oil pump quit working, Really hard to say, Hopefully it's not ready for overhaul. Best of luck to you.

I got a 2005 Chevy Cavalier, after forgetting to change my oil and it running low, I started to get a knocking noise in the top part of my engine. We checked the lifters, they were fine, what else could it...

Top of the engine could be a piston wrist pin, or a broken or stuck ring-try adding some Marvel Mystery oil in the crank case, if that does not work, go with a heavier oil when doing an oil change-are you certain it is not a rod knock, because that is the most common result of running with very low oil-no matter what, I hope it is not as bad as it sounds.

Engine makes loud knocking noise that seems to be coming from the very top of the engine. I should note that this car has 175000 miles on it

Knocking noises from the overhead cam may be making the noise in question. Maybe a bad bearing on the camshaft or a spun cam.

175,000 mi. is a lot of miles for an engine, it may have been over revved at some point, or suffered from oil starvation or dirty oil with a prior owner.

Knocking and pinging noise

You might have a blown head gasket. The milky oil is an indication of water getting into it, which would point toward your head gasket. You should have a compression test done.

I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina. Out of no where the engine started knocking when started. A very loud knock. Can you suggest what might be the problem?

soundc like the harmoniac blancer has seperated,to check thie make sure the car is off!!!
open the hood, see if you can move the altenator pully by hand ,if the harmonac balencer is bad you will be able too turn it by hand real easy,
too fix it , you can either replace it or weld it!!!!
either way it has too come off and its an easy fix!!!!!

That white cloud is caused by a blown head gasket, the knocking noise could be, a rod bearing, thrust bearing, somewhere in the valve train. Replace the head gasket and see if it still knocks, and change the oil and filter too. If it still knocks, than you have bigger problems.

Engine knocking on a 1995 mitsubishi montero

I use 6 to 6.5 litres in my 2800 (non-turbo) engine. Six litres is safe.

The loud noise: Careful please. I have had a big-end (the bottom of a connecting rod) come off while driving - Of course you loose one cyllinder's power and the noise is very bad. Also damages the crank shaft. If the noise does not go away by adjusting the oil level, have the engine checked immediately.
