Question about 2003 Volvo V70

1 Answer

Dear Volvo Tech Support, The dashboard clock on my V70-2002 Volvo runs forward un-controllable, every time I start the car. At this point I can not see the temperature gauge. The clock will stop randomly after a minute or two and will allow me to adjust to the right time. As I turn the car off and start again, I get the same phenomena all over again. Any idea what cause it? Thank you in advance for all your help. Regards Beny

Youperhaps have used some dashboard-shine wich have gotten into the electronics and makes a sort of short Circuit there?
You may try to spray some degreaser in by the knobs before dismatling the entre dashboard and combi-instrument.
LEK-lube have a nice degreaser for electronics, but you may use any brand as long as it wanishes entirely (leaves no residues).

The chip at the top (looking at it with the chips facing you) needs resoldering, It can be done at home with a fine soldering iron and a magnifying glass (and a steady hand) I have done it myself, I was crosseyed for a while after glairing through a magnifying glass for 2 hours but it worked. I forgot to mention, I meant the chips on the back instrument cluster after you remove it.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a common problem. The fuse will likely be for part of the instrument cluster.
If you aren't seeing any other issues, then it's probably a problem with the clock.
On the other hand, if you are seeing other issues, there is a possibility that it is the processor (yes, there's a separate processor for dashboard functions and instruments).

run fault codes and look for torque converter clutch solenoid/servo problems and TCM problem. Check oil condition and change if tan coloured.

I have a 1999/2000 volvo v40, a green dashboard light has come on, looks like a clock but the hand is outside, looks to be pointing at the 9 or 10, any idea's, iv'e lost my book!

That's the cruise control. Green symbol means that it's enabled.

There is a double button on the tip of turn-signal switch. Pressing plus or minus freezes current speed and you may apply some relax to your leg. A speed tuning is possible using this button(s). There's also a switch that disables the feature. If you are forced to slow down or stop, you may run the car again and restore previously set speed using "Resume" function on this switch.

Cruise control switches immediately to manual control after touching the brake or clutch pedal.

Cruise control doesn't work at very low speed and is not recommended in streets woth heavy traffic.

How to replace bulbs for ac/ heater control unit

1. Remove the dash around radio (just clips)
2. Remove 2 screws pointing up . (You do not need to remove screws which are parallel to the floor)
3. Remove screw pointing up on the bottom of the dashboard on left side of the driver (near left leg).
4. Remove 2 screws pointing up in the instrument cluster area.
5. Put car in 1st gear and gently remove black plastic surrounding instruments (it will have ait vents, so slide it carefully out not to damage foam insulation on air ducts; start on the bottom hear steering column) ; unplug connectors to clock and emergency flashers.
6. Remove 2 screws, now exposed, near instrument area, holding dashboard. (that was what I spent most time on, I didn't know about this screws.
7. Now gently remove (or move up) dashboard (around instrument cluster and heating controls.) Start next to ignition (careful not to damage the bulb next to the ignition.
Since you only need to get to the heating controls block, I only move up the dashboard next to it.
8. Remove 2 screws that hold the heating control and slide heating control out . This step is unnecessary If you totally removed the dashboard.
9. Pull out lever controls for fan speed, zone and temp
10. Use the screwdriver (flat) to pry 2 plastic tabs on top and on the bottom of heating control so black cover can be remover.
11. You did it! two bulbs are going to be under the cover.
