Question about 1990 Buick Skylark
If the timing chain has jumped you will need to replace it. You have a big job in store for you>for starters to determine this you will need to remove # 1 PLUG and get the # 1 cylinder to top dead center. You will be able to tell by haveing someone tap the engine over with your finger over the plug hole.Make sure to have plug wire away from you so you do not get shocked.By haveing them turn it over with finger on hole you should feel it push your finger off. When this occurs you look at lower pulley for the timing gauge a line on pulley should line up with 0. This means it is ready to be timed. You should be able from there to dis assemble the front of motor and once you have it all disassembled down to the timeing chain look at the marks and see if they are lined up.This will tell you for sure if you jumped time. For more details on how to remove everything comment back.
