Question about 1994 Nissan Maxima

1994 Nissan Altima GXE Engine miss

Rough engine idle and misses while driving down the road. I replaced all four fuel injectors with new ones. It started fine and idled normal on the initial start and test drive but then went right back to the rough idle and miss.

I did check the EGR valve and it is functioning properly. I did find one vaccum leak and fixed that. After I fixed the vaccum leak it ran fine initialy and then went back to the same old thing, maybe even worse now.

check your plugs and the cyl. that has a fouled plug is the one to perform a compression test on first. If anything lower than 80 to 90 psi you may have a bad valve or cracked head.you need a compression tester

You most likely have bad compression in engine. Notorious for bad catalytic converters. Scores piston walls and fits your description. Gut out cats fill with engine restore. and start looking for a engine.

94 cadillac eldorado fuel filter replacement

It could be a fuel problem, but in most cases the rough running would continue at road speed.
You could certainly change the fuel filter and see what happens.
A rough idle but no problems on the road would point to a vac problem or maybe a burnt valve. A fuel or ignition problem would be at most speeds including when you put the engine under a load.
Its possible to have a faulty injector on one cylinder that is bad enough to cause a miss at idle but smooth out on the road, but that is a rare occurance.

My 94 Nissan Altima idles rough and at about 1500 rmp, smooths out on highway with only slight miss. Check engine light comes on and goes off periododically. No one seems to be able to check for a code....

On most Nissan models in the early 1990s you used the gas pedal to make the check engine light flash.
If you research the internet for the procedure you should be able to check it yourself. Once you have the code or codes you can look them up online too. The info is listed in some of the Nissan car discussion websites.

1994 max. starts fine, but has a puttering sound coming from the tailpipe, engine idles a little rough, when driving it has a miss throughout the driving range. Fairly new wires and cap and plugs and...

That could definetly be the problem.
But they also had a problem with the wire harness that runs along the RH passanger side shock tower. wher the harness goes from the body to the engine. sometimes the wires get broken internally.
To test this theory , start the car and grab the harness, wiggle it and bend it around with both hands while listening to the engine to see if it changes better or worse.

1996 nissan altima engine stalls when going uphill

If you recently replaced the battery, you may need to reset the idle air control valve setting. This is done by removing the NEGATIVE battery wire from the battery while the vehicle is HOT. Then you must wait several hours for the vehicle engine to become cold. Next, once could, reconnect the negative cable. Start the vehicle, place your foot on the brake and imediately put the vehicle in drive. Stay in that situation until the vehicle engine bcomes hot to normal temperature range. This will be known by hearing the radiator cooling fan turning on. You must NOT use the airconditioner during this cause it will be on during the event. Once accomlplished place in park and allow the engine to cool, engine off. This resets the engine computer to tell the idle/load speed control valve to add air and resuling in additional fuel to the engine under various torque loads.
