Question about 1998 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

My engine light and oil temp lights come on in my 1998 f150 4.6L truck. What could be the probable cause? I was driving home from work which is about 15 KM. I was about half way when the engine light came on. I had put the heater on but was getting only cold air. I was thinking that the thermostat may be stuck closed. Is that a possible cause?

My battery light and oil temp light stays on in my mazda 1998 MPV

The battery light is usually an indicator of a failed alternator or bad cables causing low power to your electrical system. Without it, your car will run off of battery power until it is discharged and then shut down. Check all connections and test the alternator. If you dont have the facilities to do so, most auto parts chain stores can do it for you right in the parking lot.
As for the oil temp light, this is only a cause for concern if its happening with the vehicle at full operating temperature. If its steady on with a cold engine, then just the sensor is bad. Now....if its an oil "pressure" light, thats a completely different story. Do not run the engine until its sorted out. I have never owned a Mazda, so im not 100% on exactly what the light means, but its unusual to have an oil "temp" light. Is your serpentine belt intact?

At oil heat light coming on and causing 4 wheel drive to engage

in subarus all wheel drive is working at all the time ,and there is no oil temp. signal for engine oil, there is only oil pressure sensor. There is one for your rear differential oil ,check if your oil was ever changed ,on the back of differential there is a oil release screw and above it you will find sensor with cable attached to it ,check your oil level ,or replace it with 90w75 synthetic oil ,clean the magnet attached to oil plug ,it also might be oil temp sensor that is bad

Hi Nikki, What oil was low? Was it engine oil or gear box oil? Did the engine overheat? what exactly happened? Did you hear any strange noises when the engine stopped? Was the vehicle towed or was it on the back of a recovery vehicle? If it was towed, at what speed and over what distance? What engine is fitted? Is it petrol or diesel powered? Give as many details as possible to help us help you. Regards John

Oil light on when oil is full

a loose connection WILL NOT cause flickering oil light unless your your oil is empty at the same time a connector is loose. This flickering is most likely caused by clogged oil ports or failing oil pump. When this happens there is insufficient oil running through the engine, causing the sensor to activate the light intermittedly. Have this checked immediately to prevent extensive engine damage. Hopefully this helps!!

Oil pressure light comes on when engine temp rises

Worn engine with low oil pressure. As engines wear, the main bearing clearances increase, causing low pressure. Try 10W40 or 15W40 oil.

Engine and oil lights on

Hi there... I would not recomend driving your vehicle. there is a possibility that the knock you are hearing could be the lifters. What weight of oil was put inot your vehicle? could be that thw viscosity is too heavy for the temperatures your are experiencing. The engine light could be the knock sensor that has detected the knocking in your engine. Your best bet is to have the vehicle towed to a shop and have them check it out. worst case senario is the oil pump. If you drive with no oil pump you could do great damage to the engine. Hope this helps you out.
