Don't bother. They are hydraulic and rely on oil pressure to obtain a zero clearance when everything is OK. Your oil system may be sludgy or you may be using the incorrect viscosity oil.

Do they wor for noisey tappets

Noisy lifters (tappets) are caused by wear in the valve train, this is a fact of life for engines and normal. Two choices, go to the next higher viscosity oil(which will only quiet it a little), or have the valve train rebuilt. I personally have seen noisy engines run 10-15 years with no major failures!

HOW DO I SET NOISY TAPETS FOR TAYOTA CONQUEST

First of all, make sure it has tappets. In our country, Toyota Conquests have overhead camshafts, which means they don't have tappets. The camshafts drive the valves down with cam followers - these are metal caps on the valves that run directly against the cams. These caps are either self-adjusted hydraulically, or set by inserting shims inside the caps.

tappets cannot be tight and noisy at the same time . Check the rocker and rocker shaft for wear in the shaft and rocker bushes.

What is tappet settings

Hydraulic tappets are tappets that contain a small hydraulic piston, pressurised by the engine's lubricating oil supply.[5] Although the piston does not move appreciably or frequently, it acts as a hydraulic spring that automatically adjusts the tappet clearance according to the oil pressure. This makes the valve actuation self-adjusting and there is no need to adjust the rockers. Hydraulic tappets depend on a supply of clean oil at the appropriate pressure. When starting a cold engine, with low oil pressure, hydraulic tappets are often noisy for a few seconds, until they position themselves correctly.

Can you set valve clearances on a 1997 clio 1.2 engine.my engine sounds as if the tappets are noisey.

The tappet clearence should be in the owners handbook but it's a bit early a tappet noise from the engine (2006) ! Check oil level and change if it's overdue a service is definately worth a look ! Good luck

V6 grand vitara, could noisey tappets be caused by faulty hydrolic lifters? If so how difficult would it be to change them?

Unlikely. The hydraulic lifters used in this model have been used across the Suzuki range for many years and have proven very reliable. The most likely cause for the noise is lack of oil pressure to the VLAs (valve lash adjusters). This can be due to the incorrect viscosity oil being used, or lack of servicing leading to clogging of the oil passages in the cylinder head or in the VLAs themselves with sludgy oil residue. There are a number of snake oils which can supposedly help soften and flush this residue out, and it would be worth trying this and changing the oil before deciding to change the VLAs - which are very expensive to purchase (24 per engine!), and are a very difficult operation to change with the engine in the car.
