Question about 2001 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
Hi, I just bought a 2001 MB ML430 with 107k miles. I test drove it and it was smooth. Knowing these cars can drive 300k miles and it had no check engine lights and the price was low (it had serious paint problems) so I agreed to buy it "AS IS" this New Jersey dealer only sell cars over 100k miles "AS IS". When I was driving it to New York, it overheated in traffic and I found out the gas guage does not work. I can fix the guage and I usually change water pump and flush radiator with any used car. My biggest concern is why would the "Check Engine" light not go on. Could this be a more serious problem with its self diagnostic system? Is there an electronic piece which could have been removed to knock out the check engine light? Can it not pass inspection although the check engine light is not on? Please help! Thank you.

Check the fuse for "check engine" also might pay to check all globes and fuses, air bag etc at least when you do fix the problems you will be driving a nice Benz.
