Question about 1991 Chrysler LeBaron
My transmission shifts out great until it warms up then I think it may shift out to 2nd but no further, I can go about 45miles an hour so whatever gear that is any simple suggestions? I have already changed the filter and fluid. There were shavings on the magnet in the pan. I am a 115lb female keep that in mind when advising me
The problem may be connected with the shaving on the pan. It may or may not be related to the issue that you have. You mention that the issue only occurs when the car has warmed up. This may indicate a problem has something to do with the lubricant. Check for leaks underneath by placing news paper underneath the car then check if there is fluid in the morning. There could be an issue with some of the oil seals in the transmission. Double check the fluid levels if it changes or drops from the factory specified levels. The leaks may not necessarily mean that you would see oil dripping from the car but the oil may stay on the outer housing of the transmission. Pay close attention to how many times you are able to shift to identify where the shifting ends. The shifting can be controlled by either a cable or electronically. If it is a cable, then check if it is worn out. For an electrical transmission you should see wiring towards the transmission. Check the condition. An electronically controlled transmission would get signal from a speed sensor for its shifting. Have have velocity sensor checked. This is normally a cheaper fix than having the transmission repaired. Observe also if there is a burnt smell. If there is you may have to have the transmission serviced as the transmission may be giving off to much heat damaging internal parts. The longer that you run the car without having it fixed would cause more damages.
