Question about 1985 Ford Econoline

85 E-350 fuel problem

I can't switch to the rear tank on my 85 Suncrest motorhome either. To begin with it would stall on up hill climbs now it won't run on it at all. The generator also uses that tank and works fine. I don't get far on one tank with the 460 engine.

There is a switching valve under the vehicle that switches from front to rear. it may have gone bad or the switch itself may be bad

Low fuel pressure after 50 degree hill climb-perdana v6

After you were on a hill and return to a level surface?
You have a gauge connected to monitor fuel pressure?
Or is the car just running poorly after you were on a hill?
Perhaps you have water in your fuel tank and since it sinks to bottom of tank, the hill makes it move to front or rear of tank when going up or down and your pick-up for fuel is in that location?
Need more details to know what you mean since I doubt you have a fuel pressure gauge attached to your fuel rail while driving, and if you had, that would be usefull unformation.

Most likely a fuel system problem. There may be something in the fuel tank that plugged the fuel pickup sock while in the uphill angle. If the tank was less than 1/2 full, it's possible that it let air into the fuel line.

Do you notice it dieing in a certain place? Like in a hilly area or on inclines? I recently had a similar problem on my motorhome. I seemed to run fine on the flats or downhill, but when I went to climb a hill, it would die. It ended up being a weak fuel pump, water in the fuel and a clogged fuel filter. So I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and put two cans of heat in the fuel tank (75 gallon tank) and it ran great the rest of the way home.

Check your fuel pump in the front tank. The fact that it begins to stall - tells me that the valve is actually working - the front fuel pump just isn't pump fuel.

Most pickup based motorhomes have 2 fuel tanks, you may have a tank selector valve that is electric or vacuum operated. Check underneath and follow the fuel lines from the tank to the front of the engine, somewhere in between you may find that the fuel hose goes to a valve that is used to switch between the 2 tanks ie: main fuel tank and auxillary fuel tank.

Engine light and cuts out at freeways speed when climbing up hil

Hi, williamtkr.

Have you changed your fuel filter lately? I had a vehicle once whose fuel tank that had a rusty seam. Every 10,000 miles or so, the rust flakes would clog the fuel filter, and the engine would sputter and stall when the vehicle was climbing uphill. If you idled for a bit, you could drive on for a ways, until the same thing happened.

A nearly dead fuel pump could cause the same problem, I suppose.

Good luck.
