Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My entire electrical wiring leading to my brake switch fried and was blowing the number 23 fuse. Is this common?

Should not be try tracing the wiring nd check for signs of the harness rubbing or cutting it may show you the point of contact of the short

Brake light fuse and fog light fuse blowing


-- First - double check that you have the right sized fuse. If you're using a 15 instead of a 30 - it'll blow for sure.
-- Maybe the light is too bright for your circuit. Try a dimmer bulb.
-- Next, have you had anything installed in your car BEFORE this started happening??? More specifically, on the same circuit as the one that is blowing??? If yes, you'll need to make sure that a no wire is touching any metal part of the car, or that no screw pierced a wire and now makes contact with metal or water.mthat can easily cause a short and blowbthe fuse.
Take a few moments to inspect the condition of the wires, make sure everything looks good and use electrical tape to repair if need be.

Switch out my brake switch and put new bulbs and brake lights still don't work


Check your fuses. if they are all good, try wiggling the bulb in the socket. also try playing with the wires leading to the socket.
If you have a trailer towing package, sometimes the wires spliced into will corrode and sever the entire brake light wire.

Brack lights wont light up on my 1988 ford ranger we keep blowing fuse and put in new brake switch


If you keep blowing the brake fuse than you have a short in the system. Unplug the brake switch. Install a new fuse. If it did not blow than the problem is after the brake switch. Next unplug the turn signal switch, then plug the stop light switch back in and press the brake pedal. Did the fuse blow. If not than the wiring is good in between the two switches. With the turn signal switch disconnected use a jumper wire in between the light green wire (power from the brake switch) and the orange with light blue wire (power to the right brake lamp). If the fuse blows than there is a short in the right side brake circuit between the plug in and the rear socket assembly. If the fuse does not blow than jump from the light green wire to the Light green with orange wire (power to the left brake lamp). If the fuse blows than the problem is in the left hand brake wiring circuit.

When i depress the brake pedal i blow the fuse for the brake light switch and therefore the brake lights go out


That fuse is not just for the brake switch, but for the whole brake light system. So the short that is blowing the fuse may be anywhere in the brake light wiring. Start by examinng the brake pedal switch for damage, heat discoloration, melted plastic- anything that would indicate an electrical short. If you have any doubts about the switch, replace it and see if it fixes the short. Next, you will have to trace the brake wires as best you can, looking for places the wire could snag, or chafe the insulation off the wire and let it contact metal. At some point you may need a voltmeter to check wires and brake light sockets for current, and to check for continuity in the wiring. Finding shorts can be sometimes difficult. You may want to consider having a shop tackle it.

NO BRAKE LIGHTS - FUSE BLOWS


Really need more info but if it blows fuses you have a hot wire touching metal somewhere......
or something plugged in where it shouldnt be.....Or wrong size fuse..You have a brake light switch attached to the brake pedal which is common to fail.....also brake light bulbs and fuse ...check where bulbs are installed at recepticles....check for naked wires touching metal.....also use a good rated fuse...
should be a 15 some are 10 some 20...i would try a 15 if you dont know..................Sometimes your foot can accidently kick wires loose under dash at brake light switch........some cars also have
a cruise control switch above brake light switch.....DONT confuse one with other....NEED MORE INFO ABOUT VEHICLE TYPE TO GIVE CORRECT ANSWER................METALPOET

98 convertible keeps blowing 40 amp fuse under hoo for headlights. put fuse in and it blows after about 30 seconds. Headlights will work and then fuse blows. fuse will also blow without turning headlights...


Hi, you will need to trace the wire from the fuse to the headlight switch. If you can tell me your model, I may be able to tell you the color of the wire. A common area of concern is the area under the dash where the wires leave the switch. If they are caught in the parking or regular brake mechanism, that can cause a short. You're looking for a spot where the wire is pinched in metal and/or the insulation has stripped from the wire. If you find it, wrap it with electrical tape and tie the wires back from whatever they were caught in.

My Dodge neon A/C only work when I press on the Brake pedal Disconnect the Plug and jump it and it will work


look in the fuse panel at fuse #22 and fuse # 23 for power. fuse # 22 controls the a/c compressor clutch relay, and fuse # 23 controls power to brake switch. with the car running and the a/c switch on check for power on both sides of both fuses again. remove fuse # 23 and recheck for power on the a/c fuse. if no power to fuse for the a/c then you either have a short in the wiring between the a/c and the brake switch fuses. if you have had someone to do any electrical work on the inside of the car they have tapped into the wiring under the dash or the fuse panel to connect the the two wires together to get power. the brake switch wire and the a/c wires are not on the same circuit. the wire you can check on the outside next to the fuse panel will be a pink/dark blue wire controlling the brake switch (power). and the wire for the a/c compressor clutch relay will be red/ lite green or red/ black controlling power to the relay. you may look under the fuse panel to see if the wires for fuse #23 and # 23 are touching together causing a short.hope this will help!!!!

I just replaced the brake switch on my 1994 gmc pick up.It keeps blowing the stop fuse in the fuse box when i push down on the brake pedal.Ive got the wiring harness unpluged fro the brake lights.The third...


There is a short somewhere between the switch and the brake lights. I would inspect the light holders very carefully. This would be the first place that corrosion could start because of water and weather. After that you would have to follow and inspect the wiring. Has it been pinched, crushed, kinked or damaged?
Have you tried to reconnect one light and push pedal? Is problem common to both?
Being an electrical tech I would measure the resistance on the wiring to ground, should read infinity (no contact). Good luck!
