I have a Saab 93 which is an ex fleet car, the service history shows 72000 mile service carried out by a Saab dealer, is it safe to assume the cam belt would have been changed during that service?

Check everything for condition since the service record is a copy and might have been faked. If the belt is new it will still have printed information visible on it. If it has a brown sheen to it and no sign of lettering it is likely to be old. Given the potential damage a broken belt can do to the engine I would change is out just to have peace of mind. At the same time replace the starter motor brushes (about £10) and the alternator voltage regulator with brushes (about £12); inexpensive preventative DIY measures that will provide a further 70k miles. Lastly check brake fluid and parking brake mechanism. Any hint that these have been neglected then renew and refurbish as they are not expensive.

Oil leak by the timming cover gasket

we need engine displace ment or exact honda type. ID
to answer fully.,
my guess, is the engine leaks oil and you have tried fix it
odd, you did the hard ones first. why not the valve cover
did you know there are 2 ways to find leaks.
1: clean it , all off, then run it and look. see live leak.
best is to do that with out driving as the wind blows it about.
find it , now you know what leaking.
2: use the UV dye kit.
quote wiki, but WHAT ENGINE ?????????????????
all base models were made with 1.6L engines. The EX-CX are all SOHC (Honda D engine). The CX, DX, and LX all have D16y7 non-VTEC engines; whereas the EX has a D16y8 VTEC, and the HX has D16y5 VTEC-E. The USDM Si and Canadian SiR came with a DOHC (B16A2 VTEC).

first tell engine, ! DOHC is quite different.

Honda vtec solenoid p1259 code

Why did you change all of those things if you were told it was the VTEC solenoid? Why not try that first? Read online to see if there is a method to clean the solenoid without replacing it. I'm not sure that the VTEC solenoid would cause such problems, but I suppose it's possible. The VTEC system uses oil pressure to change the follower on the cam lobes. It changes between profiles. So at higher RPM, it switches to a different cam profile that is more efficient at higher RPMs. Like having 2 cams in 1.

Check engine light keeps coming on my 2002 Honda civic si. After MANY times at the same Machanic he keeps throwing codes to the car resets the light. After 30 miles or more it comes back on. Things he...

if its throwing a code for cam sensor but new sensor does not fix it given the fact of recently replacing the timing chain id say it sounds like the timing was not set correctly which is causing the cam sensor to receive abnormal readings throwing the check engine light on. pull cover and check timing mark placement against specifications

How to replace cam shaft sensor

Assuming you have the 2.3 L 4 cylinder engine, the CYP sensor [Honda does not call it a camshaft sensor] is located in the distributor. It also has 2 crankshaft sensors, located down at the front of the crankshaft. You need to remove the timing belt covers to access those.
FYI, P1259 is a VTEC system [variable valve timing] malfunction code. First step would be to change the engine oil and filter. Dirty oil can cause the VTEC solenoid to stick.

How do i set the valve timing if i cant see the timing marks on a VW 1.8 20valve golf cylinder head timing chain , i can only find the one on the belt side i have put the cam on TDC for the ex-valve but...

The 2 cams are linked with a chain at the rear of the cylinder head.

The cams need to be set so the slots on the chain sprockets line up with the cam tower caps with 16 links between cam caps.

You cannot see the front crank pulley tdc mark so you need to lock the engine at tdc with a screwdriver jammed into the timing hole on the bell housing after setting engine at tdc or use a DTI
to check to tdc in the #1 spark plug hole.

If the cams have not been disturbed you only need to set the belt cam sprocket to the mark and crank to tdc.....all this means pulling the core support into the service position so the belt tensioner can be locked down and/or doing a complete belt job along with a coolant pump if over 70,000 miles..
