Cars are designed to last aproximatley 350,000 miles with the proper maintenance kept up with. I know that seems like a high number but you would be surprised the amount of vehicles that come through my shop with miles near that or greater than run amazing. It is all in doing the proper maintenance to your car.

On your dash is a little round switch with a ballast resistor in it, by turning it clock wise or counter clock wise you can change the settings and intensity of your dash lights.

Does a fuel pump have a lifespan, like is it advisable to change it at a certain kilometer even when it's not giving you any problem?

I don't think it's a part of any regular scheduled maintenance changes, but an intriguing question. I think their average lifetime could be in years as well as mileage. On average I would guess we are increasing miles driven per year. I can tell you the main thing that shortens pump life is overheating from chronically low gas tank levels. In tank pumps require being surrounded by gasoline for cooling purposes. The guy who often runs out of gas, and cranks and cranks the car over, is killing his fuel pump in short order. I would hazard a guess that normal pump life is maybe around 150,000 miles? But I am sure there will be some in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mode. I myself adhere to that pretty often, lol.

My 2003 Trailblazer chugs like it's going to die. Doesn't matter the speed. Sprayed the throttle body once with cleaner and it still does it.

you don`t say but when was the last time mileage wise was a tune-up done or the air cleaner checked.when chugging is there black smoke out the tailpipe.if so then its running rich.is there a check engine light on if so have the code and data in the pcm checked this can help in where to start diagnosing.have the fuel pressure checked it may not have enough pressure or volume.it could be a dirty fuel filter.

How long would the original alternator last?

It all depends on the environment you live in. most times an alternator will go bad due to temp extrems either under the hood or outside. corosion and loose connections also will shorten the service life. mileage wise in moderate environment say 60-70,000

I was told that to leave my overdrive on .That my cars computer knows to engage it and disengage it. Is this true ?

yes you should leave your over drive on, over drive is some thing like another gear only slightly higher ratio than the last gear before it, the only reason to take it off is if you are needing acceleration in top gear or you are pulling a heavier load, its just there for gas mileage, other wise it will shift normally and save you gas money by shifting into it after top gear and no load

1998 ford ranger runs cool has new radiator gage show engine cooling at high idle

This isn't unusual for an engine that is tight compression-wise but higher mileage. If friction is low, and the cooling system good, this reduces the amount of heat resulting.
I use a molybdenum-based oil additive and it brings friction down (and mileage up) enough so that a car I owned some years ago used to drop substantially (dropping 2/3 of the uncalibrated gauge) rolling down a long slope during the commute to work. This happened after the engine passed through 150,000 miles.
