Your brakes are badly worn if there is any grinding or the ABS sensor on dragging on the probes.check the whole brake assembly

My ABS brakes come on every once it a while. It sounds like a bass drum beat and feels like the whole front end is gonna fall off. I had new rotors and pads put on with no change in the problem. PepBoys rode with me and it finally kicked on for them after about 15 complete stops. Right away, the chief mechanic said it was the ABS system kicking in and they had no way to fix it without the Daewoo programming. It may be just a bad sensor, he said. Anyway, it is not dangerous. At least, the regular brakes work perfectly now.

When appling brakes i sometimes hear grinding and ticking noise and abs light is on

A grinding noise is usually an indication that the brake pads are worn out. You may also have a defective wheel bearing causing this noise and in turn can cause the ABS light to come on due to poor sensor contact. Have the brakes and bearings inspected soon to avoid unnecessary costly repairs.

Grinding sound when braking on a 1995 GMC Sonoma w/ recently replaced front brakes

Possibly abs motor running due to false activatin. these trucks had issues with wheel speed sensors... try and pull abs fuse and see if u still hear noise. if not then u will have to find which sensor is deffective.

The abs lighton my 2000 mercury mystique comes on and the brakes make loud noise

The noise you hear from the brakes? is it a scraping grinding noise? if so your metal to metal on one or more of your wheels and that can cause the ABS to mal-funtion. If the brakes are good then it sounds like the ABS module is failing. I wouldn't remove the fuse because other systems may be relying on that fuse to work. Find the ABS module and dis-connect it. To find out more information on your ABS system go to your local library.

The abs light is on in my car and the brakes are terrible what could be the problem was told that my abs modulator was shorting out

The light can be on for many reasons. Brake fluid level. Wheel spin sensor. Worn brake pads (if they have a sensor) Bad pressure sensor When you say terrible what do you mean? Shaking? Squeaking? Sqealing? (metal to metal grinding) The brakes continually pulsate?

As far as shorting out, has your car gone in very high water? If you pull the fuse for the ABS does it stop being terrible? (brakes should work fine without fuse)

No matter the car all hydraulic brakes work the same. The braking system can work without ABS, provided the ABS isn't the problem.

When I hear "shorting out" this means to me something is wrong but the person doesn't know what it is. Actual shorting is rare.

2004 nissan maxima...can hear the abs pump while driving and sounds like grinding when braking at low speeds. Is this pump issue or sensor? What causes this to happen?

hi from uk the only thing i would be concerned about at this moment is the grinding when brakes applied ? this sounds very much like your brake pads are very low and most likely worne to the point of damage(grinding metal to rotor contact) is the sound you hear also the abs will sense this and due to unbalance of braking to each wheel abs will operate however i would have thought your car may have low pads warning indicator light system fitted but may not ? may i suggest considering age and possible high milage of your car ? if you have not had pads inspected recently? you do so asap b4 you drive any distance especially at speed ?

1995 dodge neon below 10mph foot on the brakes the abs noise no light it sounds like a drinding noise

Brake pads are worn out. The ABS light would not come on because there is nothing wrong with the ABS. The grinding you are hearing are the brake pad backing plates rubbing against the rotor. You should have heard a high pitched squeal long before this happened. More than likely the rotors are now destroyed and will need replacing or at the very least turned in a machine shop. Fix this yesterday.
