This is a common problem for these lincolns and yes they do have problems with leaking down. and to answer your part of the question about it being on or off, it should stay on the only time it really needs to be turned off is when it is at the shop being worked on. By turning it off it prevents damage to your system when the car is raised off the ground.

I hope this helps you some.

Can not get the new air ride compressor to come on

Make sure the trunk switch is turned on. Your doorjam and trunk switches are wired into the Air-ride. They must sense the openings are closed before the lift compressor will work.

There are level controls for height. If the car was put on a lift without the switch being turned off, the positioner may be stretched beyond working.

Air suspension light

The air ride suspension light turns on when for whatever reason the air ride suspention is NOT on. So, either the suspension switch in the trunk is turned off, or you have a problem with your air ride suspension. I ran into the same thing last week. When I checked the switch in the trunk, sure enough it was switched on. I flipped the switch off, turned the car on and then flipped the switch in the trunk to on position. It has been fine ever since. Give it a try. GOOD LUCK.

Is there a way to check if air shocks are operating correctley before I purchase mark 8

you mean air suspension. yes, there is a switch in the trunk i think on left side. turn it off , then open hood and on the air pump for suspension there is a regular air valve like on tires. Release the air from system, car will lower down.. then turn switch in trunk back on and start engine so the pump wont kill battery , and watch the car rise again to normal height.

Air suspension will not come up, compressor is not

Ok lets try this from the top,

Check the boot/trunk for the Air suspension switch make sure it accidently hasnt been turned off.,

You said you checked the fuses make sure you pulled it out and checked it not just glanced to double check,

Go to the engine bay and open up the fuse box above the battery Swap the horn and Air suspension relay *Marked on box* around and try the horn, if the horn doesnt work you found your issue and a new relay is needed.

If no avial i point you to this tech artical done by Lincoln owners for other owners theres alot of other tech tips to i'd suggest book marking the site

Check the suspension switch on the trunk, I think is on the driver side, something should happen if you turn it on/off.

My air suspension light came on and want go off

The warning light is advising you of a fault in the rear air suspension system. Is the car sitting level ? The switch in the trunk is ONLY TURNED OFF when you incur a flat tire in the rear tires and must jack up the rear of the car. IF NOT TURNED OFF the air suspension will over-extend with air . Hope this helps.
