Question about 1990 Nissan Stanza

1 Answer

Transmission started gushing fluid out.

I have a 1990 Nissan Stanza with a 2.4 engine front wheel drive. The problem is with the transmission. On the side facing the radiator towards the back on top of the side is a round something like 3" cover or seal or something that is gushing fluid from around this part. Does anybody know what this is and how to fix or replace this part? Thanks

THAT sounds like the foward pump housing cover and the only thing to do is to take it to the auto trans people as it has to be remover and replaced from inside

It was a servo cap with a o ring around it. I went to a transmission shop went through some old gasket kits and found a new o ring and installed it myself. Was able to fix it with a pair of pliers and a dollar.

Transmission fluid is pour out near the back of the transmission on my automatic 2.4 liter 1990 nissan stanza. what possible problems does that tell me about?

One of your axle shaft seals or the speed sensor o-ring is leaking. Those are the only three things back there that can be leaking. Have them all checked out and replaced as needed.

Does the 1988 Nissan Stanza have U-joints? The reason I ask is because when the car shifts it jolts. And when you put it in gear it jolts and vibrates. I looked under the car and I dont see a driveline. Is...

Hi, yes you have front wheel drive. The drive shafts are on each side going from the transaxle to the wheels. each axle has 2 constant velocity (CV) joints. This is a bit different than a U-joint but serves the same purpose. There are 2 indications of a worn out CV joint. Id the boot is torn, the CV will wear out due to dirt getting in. If you hear a popping noise when making a sharp turn, that is a worn our CV joint. If your boots are intact and there is no popping on turns, the odds are the problem is not with the joints but somewhere else in the drive train. Raise the car and turn the wheels by hand to see where the play is coming from. let us know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I am trying to replace the starter in my 86 nissan stanza but cant see it

NISSAN STANZA WAGON - Manual Transmission

Q. Where is the starter on a 1986 nissan stanza station wagon and how do you get to it ?

Due to limited access to the starter, it is recommended that the transaxle be removed when servicing the starter.

REMOVAL:

1. Cold vehicle.

Remove 2 mounting bracket bolts, 10 & 12 mm (Figure 1).

Remove top starter motor bolt 14 mm with universal & long extensions.

Raise vehicle on hoist.

Remove front splash pans 10 mm.

Automatic transmission: Drain 2 qts out.

Remove rt-ft wheel 21 mm., & tie rod (Figure 3), axle cap, cotter pin, adj-nut & rubber washer.

Remove ball joint nuts 17 mm., left lower control arm 19mm. & swaybar bracket 14 mm. (Fig 2).

Remove axle nut 36mm (Figure 4), the front tube, catalytic converter heat insulators 10mm, ctr ex-tube 17 mm., and front tube from exhaust system (Figure 5).

Remove long bolt from ft engine mount (next to radiator), 17mm socket (Figure 6, Item A).

Remove tension rod mount 14 mm. Has adj-bracket with rubber insulators (Fig 6, Items B, C).

Remove right side drive shaft bolts that hold shaft to bracket mounted on engine (Fig7) 12mm.

Remove rt-driveshaft.

CAUTION: Transaxle side seals are cut by spline teeth.

Install hoist type transmission jack and wooden block under the transmission/engine. Be certain the transmission is safely balanced on the hoist.

Remove 5 engine crossmember mounts (3 bolts, 2 nuts) 14mm.

Remove nut that attaches crossmember to engine mount.

Loosen stabilizer bar mounts to allow adequate clearance for crossmember to be removed.

Remove following brackets to allow starter assembly to pass through bottom:

tubular support bracket - engine to transaxle

angled support bracket - driveshaft bracket to engine mount

manifold collector stay - (bottom bolts)

Loosen top bolts, remove bracket above driveshaft-holding bracket 14mm.

NOTE: This bracket is slotted to allow it to slide out without completely removing the bolts.

Remove bottom starter motor mounting bolt.

Separate starter assembly from bellhousing, DC all cables/connectors, remove starter motor.

When installing starter, connect cable, install/torque starter bolts.

1990 Nissan Stanza 2.4 Liter Engine miss. This is a used car we just bought, has 112,000 miles on it and it only happens when I put the transmission in drive or reverse. It does not happen when in park....

could just need a tune up,you could also pull of the distributor cap and look for oil intrusion, if there is you will need to replace the distributor

!992 nissan stanza standard trans fluid

If your referring to the manual transmission where you do the shifting. Your going to be using gear lube, not to be confused with transmission fluid. Which is red in color, they are not interchangeable transmission fluid is only for automatic transmissions. Gear lube is much heavier in weight, you want to get a gear lube 80-90 weight this lube is perferred for your vehicle

My 1992 Nissan Stanza has transmission leak.

The stop leak treatment may help the seals to seal better but I would get the car to a good transmission shop since it has that many miles on it. The fluid probably needs flushed out and changed by this time.
