This is 100% of your troubles. Connecting a battery up wrong can cause a handfull of problems, I would start with making sure that there hasn't been a fuse blown both under the dash and under the hood as well. Electrical surges like this can very easily burn up your cars computer as well.

If it is more than checking the basics, fuses and such you might have to have it taken to a repair shop for an electrical diagnostic.

Good Luck, I hope this helps some.

Check your fuses. there should be 2 fuse boxes. one under the hood the other on the side of the dash on the driver side. possibly under the dash on driver side. it could also be relay that cannot be checked they can only be replaced and hope for the best

1996 Nissan pickup. Replaced starter/flywheel. Starter still grinds. Will not start. Manual standard truck.

If the Bendix arm of the starter is not meshing properly with the teeth of the flywheel, you may have improperly installed the flywheel; you may have the wrong starter or flywheel...it is always best, when removing parts from a car to visually match the new one up to the old part, side-by-side. Any deviation in design of the replacement part to the original will not work.
The other possibility is you either forgot to place the original spacers (if there were any) of the old starter onto the new one; or as you mentioned in your post... you will have to add shims.
You never mentioned whether the parts were bought through a 3rd party vendor (auto parts store) or if they are genuine Nissan parts obtained through the dealership's parts department.
It is not unusual for a counter person at an auto parts store to make a mistake and give you the wrong part. Sometimes vehicle manufacturers may retool design in the same model year and unless there is a footnote in the parts look-up book that discloses this, you may have gotten the earlier production part vs. the redesigned one.

How do you replace battery in Oldsmobile ciera cutlas 1999

Undo the straps securing the battery.

The complicated bit. To save problems with cutting power to your radio and the ECM, you need to maintain power as you change the batteries over. Place the new battery on the side of the engine bay, in the right attitude to drop it into place. Take two pieces of insulated wire and twist it around the bottom of the terminals on the new battery, and the other end to the clamps on the old battery.

Remove the clamps on the old battery, and place it on the other side of the engine bay. Put the new battery into place. Put the clamps onto the new battery and slide them down. Tighten them loosely. Remove the wires from the bottom of the terminal and tap the clamps down and fully tighten.

Replace the holding strap.

The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled . Your vehicle is a rolling computer .The instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside , there is also a body computer ( SJB ) smart junction box , Engine computer etc... they all communicate on a serial data network , C.A.N - controller area network . It's hard to know what's wrong when you don't know how it works . There could be codes stored in the computers , these will not always turn on the check engine light .

My remote control eats batteries

I replaced the battery in a VW key fob with an exact match of the dead battery I found in it. The fob worked again but the new battery lasted only 1 day. I checked the manual and discovered that the wrong battery had been installed by the previous owner and I had repeated that mistake. I installed the correct battery and it has worked fine ever since. I suggest that you double check to be sure you are installing the correct replacement batteries.

1996 tercel, charge the battery it will start then it will die after battery goes dead i put a new alternator on it replaced the charging system fuses and checked the wires i didn't replace the battery...

Hi,

Check if the alternator output is 13 volts to 14 volts or when the engine runs try to disconnect the negative (- ) terminal from the battery, if it still runs your alternator is okay. Just to check if that new alternator works.
If the procedure that I have told you is working, the battery must be brought to the nearest battery center, they have a load tester that will definintely assess the battery's condition if it really good or needs to be replace.

Hope that charge up the problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!
