Overheating but still running It has anti freeze just saw a leak i think it is the thermastat the indicator in the car has been going up and down for a month now it goes high almost as soon as I start the car

It is never recommended to drive a car that is leaking coolant. However, if the leak is small, and you keep close tabs on the coolant levels to avoid running low on coolant, you can drive for short periods of time until repairs can be implemented. Obviously, larger leaks may make this impossible. Also, remember to keep the proper ration of anti-freeze to water in the coolant when you top off. Even if it is not winter, the engine parts need the anti-freeze to prevent corrosion and to lubricate the water pump. Going with straight water, or an overly diluted mixture will cause more problems for you down the road.

Overheating and loss of coolant is a hint. Cracked blocks are very rare, cylinder head leaks are not.

Possible fan clutch..Usually if its a fan clutch it will run hot sitting still but cool off once going down the road..If it takes a while to run hott then i would suspect a clogged radiator..When you drain it did it look like all the antifreeze came out..Ive seen half the radiater clogged up where half of it drained but the clogged section stay in the radiator

the system may be clogged up somewhere, flush out system good. then put anti-freeze back in and then change the coolant temperature sensor, also change the thermastat. good-luck!!

the sweet sickly smell is normal for new anti freeze.once you have run the car for a couple of miles the smell will dissipate.the white foamlike stuff is chalk/lime in the water,harmless.

More likely its a transmission line leak,Check your transmission fluid level.

water pump is the problem,you will find the the water pump impellor has broken or come loose from the shaft,you going to have to replace the water pump

Smell the coolant. Is there any hint of gas smell? Also look at oil, any coffee coloring indicates problems.

AND THERE IS NO COOLANT ON THE GROUND? IF NOT THEN U MUST HAVE A LEAKING HEADGASKET.

it could be one of three things: drive belt, water pump or thermastat when you take in for the flush have all of these checked out
