You don't want a used one. ASny electrical part especially for your ignition or computer of the car you want new. With used you could end up with more problems than you started with.

put back old ecm and try spare key. if it does not work and you use a new ecm you need to program your keys to the immobilizer for it to work

Instructions replacing a brain in a 98 chevy blazer

I would find the problem first, changing the ECM is not a good idea.
will need on board programming to relearn crank position and passlock relearn. at least. And the crank relearn is a dealership(unless you have a really hi-end repair shop around) Still expensive.
ECM's rarely fail,I would suspect something else first, like mass air flow or cam sensor. No codes? next time it won't start you need to check for spark at the plugs and at least find out if it's spark or fuel that it lacks.

Make the ECM the last thing to replace as there are other items to consider first. Run fault codes to check for sensors that may be stopping the electrical system from working. Check immobiliser is function correctly

No compression on 4 cylinders

Yes, you are right. Someone doesn't know what a crank sensor is. Four cylinders at zero means engine repairs are needed. It's a mechanical problem. Very strange that four are zero. Was engine overheated causing head gaskets failure?

1995 Dodge 2500 van no ignition

I have the same issue on a 94 B250 - replaced ECM, cam and crank sensors - still only coil primary with initial relay cycle, then nothing during crank. Was told ECM needs signal from cam and crank to send primary to coil. Very confusing - all wires connected.

Got a 2003 ford tauras ..would the crank sensor keep the transmisson from engaging

no the crank sensor has nothing to do with your transmission. and all the crank sensor does is control spark up to around 4 or 5 hundred rpms (while your trying to start the car) after your car starts the crank sensor does nothing. the ecm takes over ignition controls once the engine is running. if you took it to a parts store to get it scanned beware the typical know it alls at the parts stores, most of them will do no more than get you to throw parts at your car rather than actually diagnose it. leave diagnosing to a professional mechanic. parts store guys are not trained mechanics. on the transmission issue what do you mean it will not engage? does it go into gear but not drive? is the gearshift stuck? does it go into gear but then stall the motor?

I have a new battery on my van, and it wont start it tries to but can not crank, someone told me it was a wire where do i start looking?

This can actually be a complex problem due to the amount of things that can cause it. The vehicle is cranking but not starting. You first have to verify that you have fuel and spark. You also have a hei ignition system so you will want to make sure the wires are connected to the distributor. Mainly the rear two if one is not making contact you wont start.

If you haven't already to verify its not a fuel issue pour a small amount into the intake. If it starts you narrowed the problems down. It also has a crank sensor and a knock sensor. If the crank sensor or knock sensor is bad the vehicle will not start. Also check your fuses you may have inadvertantly blown the ignition or ecm/pcm fuses. 86 was a strange year for gm products. Some of their vehicles actually had 2 fuses for the ecm and if either were blown the vehicle wouldn't start.

Its hard to tell if you are saying it just wont start up or if the vehicle is not spinning at all. Hopefully this helps you narrow down the problem.

Turn over but wont crank up

check your E.C.M. fuse, then you could have a bad E.C.M. or coil packs on the vehicle
