I would say to you that VSS is bad or getting ready to quit. It also would be nice to know year make model and how long it has been doing it.

Speedometer needle problem


Sounds like the pin that the speedometer needle rests on at "0" got broken off. If you think you can take everything apart and fiddle some sort of improvisory repair for that pin, then jump in there and have at it. Note that needle calibration may be damaged and it will never read right again, regardless. Otherwise- new speedometer.

Electrical. Battery, less than a year old, continues to drain. Car starts and speedometer needle jumps to 40 mph.


bad ground somewhere causing stuff to randomly turn on make sure that your lights are off id test eveything with a test light to see if your getting power and ground

Have a 2002 Cadi deville, replaced the speedometer sensor because the needle was jumping. Now the speedometer won't work at all.


sounds like your in the area could be a bad sensor or a bad wire that your moving around when changing the sensor

Most likely the stepper motors which drive the speedometer and fuel gauge are defective and need to be replaced.

if it has a cable , replace the inner cable
if your GPS is not calibrated it could be out as well
