Question about Volkswagen New Beetle

2 Answers

The front 3 12v power outlets of my 2004 VW Beetle do not work. However, the rear 12v power outlet does work. Is there a fuse for the front 3 power outlets? If so, where is it?

It's a 2004 Beetle. I removed the fuse cover and could only locate the fuse for the power outlet in the trunk. Could not locate a fuse for the front 3 power outlets. Called VW and they state that there is a main fuse behind the power outlet in the console. They would not provide any information on how to repair it. I asked if the blown fuse could be due to a bigger problem and they stated that it's normal for fuses to blow out in the 2004 bug! For $110.00 they would look at it to see what the problem is but it would not be covered under warranty and I would have to pay additional money to have it fixed! Hate to say it, but this car has been a money pit!!

I located the fuse box and replaced the fuse for the cigarette liter, which goes to the power outlet in the trunk. There is 3 more power outlets in the front of the Beetle. I contacted VW and they told me that there is a main fuse for the power outlets and it is located behind the power outlet in the center console. They would not provide any information on how to locate the fuse or what it looks like. I took apart the center console and could not find a fuse. Do you know where the main fuse is? Could it possible be a small glass type fuse?

That should be fused. It will be under the dash on the driversside usually. Some cars have a small panel to pull off to access the fuses, if you can't find it check your manual in the index under fuses and it will tell you exactly where it is if its not obvious from looking. The fuse for the cig lighter is normally a 10-15amp (red or blue) and says 12v accessory or cig lighter on the sticker. So you can check em all or the manual/door cover will tell you exactly what each fuse does and where it is. You may need a small pair of needle nose pliers to pull the fuses (the car may have a little white plastic fuse puller in the fuse compartment). If you look at the fuse when out onn the flat part inside the plastic you can see a piecs of curved metal, if its broken in the middle its blown, if not its good.

I am not aware of any additonal fuses behind the console and not sure why they would do that when the fuse panel houses all the fusese and makes no since to double fuse the same circuit. Wht did you find in the main panel? Was there a blown fuse?? Also do you still have your manual if so look under the fuses section and see if there is something I may have overlooked but I don't think there is more than that. $110 to look for a blown fuse is just ridiculous and i wouldn't go there either. See what your manual says and check the main panel first... let me know

The fuse is located in the passenger compartment fuse box, use a test light or refer to owners manual for exact number, to access the box
Open the driver's door and look about middle ways down on the side panel. You will see the fuse panel door about 4" x 4" in size. Use a screw driver to pry open the door.

please note there is a reason for the fuse to blow, you may have a shorted 12volt receptacle.

Vw beetle coolant temp sensor

This may happen if the connector is disconnected from the sensor, or the sensor could be bad. The sensor is probably located in the thermostst housing at the engine outlet. Follow the top radiator hose to the outlet.

They are usually labeled power outlet or cig lighter, check the fuses with a test light or voltmeter, they may look good but may not have power to them .

2003 buick rendezvous power outlets

Fuse #14 is for REAR auxillary power  outlet (in cargo area).  This is located in the INSIDE fuse box to the left of and under the glovebox (to the left of the front passenger's feet).
Fuse #32 is for FRONT Power Outlets/cigarette lighter//Lights, OnStar®  Fuse 32 is under the hood in the ENGINE AREA fuse box located in the compartment  just above the battery.DOUBLE CHECK YOUR MANUAL to make sure that your fuses are the same.  I have a 2003 Rendezvous. Your newer model may be different.  The diagrams for each fuse box can be found inside the lids of the compartments.
