Question about Cadillac SRX
Is this attempt made after along period of time?, otherwise rust has jammed the locking mechanism, which is usually the cause of this problem If the tailgate lock/slot some amount of OIL can or should be forced to go inside. After some time armed with an ordinary syringe containing petrol or gasoline should be pushed in. If rust was preventing the lock to dis-engage, will now allow it to slide back so that in can be opened from outside......................sodeep
PS If this too does not work try sliding in any pliable plastic card like any old credit card and while trying to slide it in, turn the handle & keep the pulling force same try to manipulate the plastic tenter where the lock/handle & the plastic are prallel, If you succeed in inserting he card, it will eventually dislodge the lock..........sodeep

You'll have to remove the interior panel to access the latch. You can access to a repair manual that shows a drawing of the rear door at autozone.com You have to register (its free) for access to the drawing
