there are no leaks or anything that is noticable cause my mechanic was checking and he did not know what was wrong and i leave it in the garage at night so i would have saw some spots. i have taken off the whole front bumper of the car and checked under near the oil pan and there were no signs of any leaks. This happens around the same time after every oil change i end up topping it up around this many kms. There are alot of other people with this problem and they are concerned about it aswell and the dealership tells me that its normal for fsi engines to drink oil and i dont think this is normal to be topping it up with oil.

have you noticed any oil spots on your drive way. Or have you had the car on a lift to see what is happening underneath? If the underneath is awash with oil you may have one a main bearing seal leaking. Synthetic oil has smaller molecules than convention oil which means synthetic can leak out where conventional oil may not. Check out the underneath.

If there are no leaks as you say and the underneath is free of oil spray then the next culprit would be oil coming out the tail pipe because of worn engine rings. Or possibly getting by the valve inserts and collecting in the valley. Other than that I am just guessing. Sorry I can not be more help.

Well have you got smoke from the exhaust when you start up or stop at the lights etcOR have you got a oil leak under the car.
And change your oil and filter again and go to SHELL 20w 40 and you should have no more problems also it dose not cost the earth and its the best you can get,,,And if a leak then get it fixed first..

Diesels can idle rough, if no check engine light I wouldn't worry. Check the injectors, vw diesels have the injectors work loose allot

Oil min light keeps coming on

What kind of oil? Is its not synthetic it's wrong...the Audi engines have a small oil pickup tube and the cheap oil gunks up the engine and clogs pump screen causing light to come on eventually engine failure....you need to flush engine ....you can use kerosine or go to parts store and tell them you want to clean the internals of gunk ...pour in engine oil let run for few min drain oil ...buy cheap oil for this do same thing 3 times ...when light goes off your done fill with fully synthetic oil and you just saved your engine ...only synthetic oil

How often should the oil be changed

This depends on the settings for the on board computer and the type of oil used for services.if set when NEW,using fully synthetic oil the service interval will show up on the dash as "service"(approx 20k/2 years) BUT if OEL shows, then use semi synthetic oil and change at 10k/every year.weight of oil should be 10/30 upto 60k then use 10/40 after or when you notice an increase of oil consumption. These engines WILL use oil, as the bores are plasma coated, roughly 1ltr to 500km is acceptable(according to AUDI).Yes i know that AUDI fit 5/30 when new from the factory,BUT only supply 10/30 or 10/40 to the dealers for aftermarket services....(they have a deal with castrol, gemini, worldwide).Same goes for all VW group products, after all it is a VW engine.

Hi just bought i999 1.6 audi a3 and it has started to pulse when idling and oil light comes on when engine reaches nornal temp what could this be please help

If by pulsing you mean that the idle is fluctuating up and down, this is caused by oil/sludge build up in the throttle valve. To rectify this remove the intake pipe at the throttle valve. Use engine cleaner/degreaser on a rag to clean out throttle valve around throttle butterfly. Open butterfly manually to assist access. The oil pressure light coming on is usually caused by the oil pump pick up becoming blocked by carbon and sludge in the oil sump. If you have a suitable oil pressure gauge, check the oil pressure at the oil switch. Oil pressure should be 3.5- 4 bar at 2000 rpm at operating temperature. If pressure ok, Pressure switch may be faulty. If pressure low you will have to remove oil sump and clean out or replace oil pump pick up. If not done, may result in major engine damage. Sludge and carbon build up caused by oil not being changed often enough. Best to use a synthetic oil.

AUDI A3 intake flag motor

I had the exact same problem. The check engine light would come on then go off. I didn't notice any drivabiltiy issues. End the end I had to replace the flapper motor, the high pressure fuel pump and the camshaft. They showed me the old parts and sure enough the camshaft lobe was worn down and the cam follower that actuates the fuel pump was in pieces. Needless to say it was very expensive. It's been a problem posted on many Audi sites. I went ahead and had the timing belt changed. Now she's as good as new.
