Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

4 Answers

Drove to work this morning in my 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS with no problems. Listened to the radio without starting the car for 15 minutes while I fiddled with my blackberry - at one point, the radio led went dim, power windows slowed to a crawl, etc. The battery saver kicked on. Went to start the car, and "CHECK CHARGE SYS" appeared on my DIC. All I got was a clicking noise from the starter with nothing catching. About two hours later, still getting juice to the radio/windows, but now I don't even hear the starter clicking when I go to roll it over. Help!

Sounds like your battery is dead. Most batteries last about two to three years. I suspect maybe yours has a couple of dead cells. You will need a hydrometer a device we use to test each cell. When you pick one up at the parts store pry open the caps off of the top of the battery. Next squeeze and hold the bulb on the hydrometer and stick the meter into each opening in the battery and release and make a notation of where the little ball in the meter is located. This will tell you that you have one or more cells dead and the battery will need replacing. Good Luck.

A three year old battery should not go bad yet but some do. Have the battery charged, then load tested. (with a charger, not another car) and have your charging system checked. Make sure that all connections are clean and secure and that your drivebelt is in good condition and not slipping. At this point it sounds like a bad battery but also could be a charging problem.

2007 chevy cobalt ls 2.2 power steering is ok till you come to idle an turn it stops turning sometimes is this a motor or mod. problem

The first thing to do is check the belt on the power steering pump. If it is loose or worn you can have this happen. I gather that you have checked the fluid.

2006 Chevy Cobalt LS rough idle

I would recommend cleaning the throttle body with carburetor cleaner, remove the air inlet to the throttle body and try cleaning. After cleaning will be hard to start but should solve your issue

2006 Chevy Cobalt LS won't start

Could be a weak connection between the battery and starter, or the clutch safety switch. You would need to know how far power is getting in the starter circuit to figure it out.

Car shuts down after 20 minutes of driving

a likely problem is a fuel pump going down...as it gets warm, it heats up the wiring inside and they expand causing a loss of connection inside the pump...As it cools, it comes back together and works again...when it dies out turn the key off and listen closely for the pump to hum when you turn the key on...If it doesn't wait for it to cool and then when you try again listen and if you hear it and it starts, that's your problem...fuel pumps will go bad quickly if you don't keep your tank at least a quarter to half full as the gas is what keeps it cool so it don't get too hot and melt the shellac on the wiring which will eventually short out...

I have a 2006 chevy cobalt and the lock lite is on on the display dash and the car wont start .Also the radio and dash functions wont come on. I live in the bahamas and we dont have access to a chevy...

you will need to do a security relearn.
1.turn key to on position and leave on
2.after 10 minutes the light will flash and go out turn the key on to off 3x then leave on again.
3. do this 3 times for 30 minutes then after 30 minutes your 3rd time and after turning the key 3 times the 4th time start the car. it should start right up.
