If that MAF is unplugged will that cause the car to shut off after running a few minutes?

  • oglesby_jack Oct 03, 2009

The codes that came up when I had it checked at autozone were

    U2108, P0100, P1700, P0110

It could also be a bad used sensor too!! Most likely if the car is shutting off when warm its usually the CPS crank position sensor which is located right off the crankshaft near the water pump or some cars its mounted on the trans right near the flywheel. Have the codes scanned at the local autoparts store for free and see where that leads you. If its stalling there should be some codes in the ECU to help point you to an problem instead of having the dealer do the same thing for you for $100per hour.

Hello! When you replaced the MAF sensor, did you also clear the trouble code(s)? If not, then the ECM is still perceiving a problem and has kept the car in "limp mode". Any major auto parts store can scan and clear the trouble codes for you, for free. I would recommend doing that ASAP. After that, if you continue to experience problems, make sure that you don't have any damaged or loose wires at the MAF sensor location, and also have the car re-scanned to determine the fault code details. If you determine that you are still getting faults for the MAF, there is the possibility that you have another defective sensor.

Incidentally, the MAF sensor on the 2000 Catera is exactly the same as that on the 2005 Saturn L300 (with 3.0 motor), and that being said, you can get it through AutoZone for about 1/3 of the cost from gmpartsdirect - about $72.

Hope this helps and good luck! Thanks for using FixYa!

It's Mass air flow sensor, and it could. I had a 20 yr old car that ran very poorly extreemly rough, would only run with foot on the pedel. Turned out to be exactly the Mass Air flow sensor. But I had to take it to a specialist to find the problem.

Mass air low sensors can be cleaned. If a new one was installed you should be ok as far as metering the air, sensor has very sensitive and fragile wires, and should only be cleaned by mass air flow sensor cleaner. Unless they left it unplugged, or the computer is not picking up signal from one dead out of the box. The all points check may have dislodged a vacuum line. But if you are at the dealer, they need to be answering your questions, after that 4K tune-up.

Could be a Mass Air Flow sensor going bad, or it could be a computer that isn't firing all of the fuel injectors when needed.

Test the Mass Air Flow sensor by idling the car, in Park, and hitting the intake tube that has the Mass Air Flow sensor integrated into it. If the car stalls, you found the problem, the MAF sensor.

Good luck on this repair.

The best thing to do is go to Auto Zone and get your Hyundai scanned for a DTC code. That would tell us which O2 sensor has gone bad. You have three O2 sensors and one of them has gone bad, the O2 sensor sends signals to the ecm to control the air fuel mixture so it will not run to rich or to lean which is causing you to fail the state inspection. Good luck and keep me posted on what the DTC codes are, be glad to help.
