Question about 1985 Chevrolet Chevy

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Chevy Cheyenne, K2500 4x4 350 Vortec. I have replaced the distributer, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires and ingnition coil. It still has a slight hesitation at start up and seems to worsen as the engine warms up. I have performed compression test on all cylinders and held 75-85 psi. I also checked the fuel pressure and it held at 58 psi. I'm at a loss here. What else could possibly cause this?

I have changed the fuel filter as well. The hesitation is when it's started. The 58 psi is at start up as the fuel pump primes. The truck is not running during this time.

What do you mean it has a slight hesitation at startup? Sorry i'm not trying to be an a**. Have you changed the fuel filter? Is the 58 psi at start up or while the truck is running? Some trucks require a higher psi at start up then drop to a lower psi while vehicle running.

Recheck the spark plug gap - these so called pre-gapped plugs are not always correct, also check the primary and secondary resistance on your coil.

Try tracing the wires and looking for a worn spot in insulation that is grounding out, its a royal pain but might be the only solution, use wire prob and test areas where inaccessible. good luck

1999 chevy blazer not starting

Check the plug wire from the ignition coil to the distributor cap.
If you haven't already, replace the distributor cap and rotor.
The GM Vortec's have issues with moisture getting inside the cap and rotor and causing problems.

start with cap and rotor, look inside and make sure all your points of contact are not warn if so replace them.if you have electronic ignition your coil pack in the top of the distributor cap could be bad or the module it is aflat looking piece inside the distributor with plugs on each end.

I have a 1996 chevy 5.7 vortec engine idles high at 1000 and when you open throttle fully it has like a misfire no power

This could be anything from a bad vacuum leak to bad ignition coil to spark plug wires to distributor cap and rotor or ignition coil. From the sound of this I would look to the vacuum leak or the EGR.

Stalls and backfires 1997 jeep grand cherokee limited replaced the map sensor, coil rotor. distributer, spark plugs, spark plugs wires. throttle body pressure sensor ,ingnition coil IAT sensor. amd still...

you need to check the fuel pressure, and did you mean you replaced the distributor or just the rotor because inside the distributor is a pickup plate that some times causes this also 02 sensor can cause this.is your check engine light on if so go to chain auto parts store they usually read your codes for free.
