First you should find your fuse panel and check your fuse for the brake lights. if the fuse is good continue on. Newer cars require the brake pedal to be pressed in in-order to shift out of park. This is a safety feature. Since the brake lights won't light up you could have a bad brake switch. The brake switch is usually located above the brake pedal. Starting at the bottom of the brake pedal follow it up till you find a switch. You should see the switch that has a plunger on the bar. It activates once the bar is pressed in, so the plunger either extends or retracts with the brake pedal. I can find out for sure if i knew exactly what car is having the problem.

Check the fuses for the brake lights, (theres 2, 15 amps) in the fuse box. make sure that the brake light switch is working. if power is going in and out of the brake light switch, then maybe the solenoid that locks the shifter is bad.

Check your brake light function. If that is at fault then your brake light switch may be faulty. If your brake lights are fine then you may have a faulty shift lock solenoid. Some Japanese models of that era have a button or key slot near to the shift lever. If you depress that then it should manually release the lock and allow you to move through the gears, until you move back to 'P' position at which point it will lock again.

Could be the brake switch or the shifter lock solenoid.

Wont shift from park

Check to see if brake lights work. The safety system uses a switch on the top of the brake pedal lever to prevent shifting out of Park without putting your foot on the brake.

If you lose the signal from this switch, it will not come out of Drive. Often the drivers' foot hits and moves or breaks this switch. Look under your dash to inspect this part.

Once you get the brake lights working, it should shift out of Park.

My daewoo won't go out of park unless you have another key in this safety thing by the shifts. It is also making my break lights not work.

im not sure on these, but i know on ford if your brake lights fuse or brake switch is bad it wont let you shift out of park, try checking your fuse that operates the brake lights in the fuse panel on the inside of the car on the driver side. hope this helps

Wont shift from park to drive its stuck

THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM IS THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH. GET SOMEONE TO CHECK TO SEE IF WHEN YOUR HITTING THE BRAKE THE LIGHTS ARE COMING ON. IF NOT THE SWITCH IS BAD OR THE WIRE GOING TO IS BROKEN. IF THE LIGHTS ARE WORKING THE SHIFT INTERLOCK IN THE SHIFTER MAY BE DEFECTIVE

Wont shift gears.

Look under the dash at the switch by your brake pedal. This switch must work for the gearshift to come out of Park. It is also the reason your brake lights do not work.

There is an electric lockout on the gearshift and the power comes from the brake light switch. This is how the van knows you have your foot on the brake.
The switch may be broke or simply loose and not making contact.

No break light, can not shift gear.

your brake light switch has failed. this will also allow you to shift out of park when you hit the brake pedal. when you hit the brake pedal the brake light should come on and the shift interlock solenoid will activate(you might hear a clicking sound under the dash or near the shift handle) allowing you to shift out of park.

1999 accord wont shift out of park and no break lights.

u have a problem with ur break light switch,,, its at the brake pedal and is threaded into the brake pedal bracket, if u have a new one and are going to replace it, disconnect the connector, loosen the 14mm nut and remove the switch by turning it counterclockwise...install ther new switch by turning it clockwise and tightening the 14mm nut then reconnect the connector...be sure to adjust the switch or else the brake lights will stay on at all times...draining ur battery and possibly burning out ur bulbs...this also releases ur trans from park to put into gears
