It could happen if the cap or rotor started to go bad and spark was arcing inside of the cap. Not to many other things could cause such a thing to happen.

How to install 95 astro/safri v6 distribtor


You have to take the access panel off inside the van. There used to be two screws on the outside under the hood and the two clips inside that have to be released. Mine was older so I don't know if they are the same. Find the wire that is going to #1 spark plug. The is the spark plug at the very front of the drivers side. Mark the wire and its relationship to the cap someway. Mark all the other wires in the cap so you know their location when you put the new distributer in. Or leave them in the cap if you are going to use the same cap. Take the cap off and turn the engine over so the rotor is pointing directly to the #1 wire. It may not hurt to make some other point of reference, where the rotor is pointing to. Loosen up the bolt at the base of the distributer, blow all dirt away and turn and pull up slightly on distributer. Do not crank engine at any point during this time until the new distributer is in. Once you have it loose take the bolt out or at least slide the clamp all the way out of the way, Remove the distributer. Remove the base gasket for the distributer and clean the surface and put a new gasket on. Put the new distributer in paying close attention to where the rotor has to line up. The point of reference I told you to make earlier. You need to turn the rotor slightly CCW from the reference point as it will turn CW a little when it is mated into the cam gear and seating to the motor. If the distributer will not go in where you need it, it may be possible that the oil pump drive has moved a little. You may need to get a long screwdriver and go into the distributer hole and turn is slightly. After you get the distributer in, you should be able to put the cap back on. Or put all wires back on to the same positions that I told you to mark earlier. If you followed this closely then the engine should start. It should probably be timed. My durango will start but not stay running unless you keep giving it gas,if you let off the gas it dies.wont idle on its own at all.


hi, there may be a number of things blocked SLOW RUNNING JETS ( inside carburetter), spark plugs need replacing or cleaning, high tention spark plug leads dodgy (cracked insulation) leaking current (missing spark), distributer cap and or rotar arm ( cap inside distributer), insufisient fuel feed. gerry

Gas fouls number 2 spk plug but everything checks out good what should i check


swap your plug over with one from another cylynder-if new plug in 2 still fouls then its not the plug its the lead or the distributer cap-check inside distributer cap for thin black lines runniing from one contact to another-its called arcing,you cant cure it ,buy a new cap

Theres no sprk replaced coil,distributer cap and rotor


i would say module but havent a clue where it be ,never seen one of these cars before here in spain ,module could be inside distributor or under the coil or mounted somewhere else around the engine compartment

try changing out the distributer,the oil leak could could be causing the the problem.as for the melted rotor thats not normal.its very important to keep these conponents dry.what would happen if you was to put a couple of quarts of 10w-30wt in your flat screen tv? do you think the picture would be perfect? the ignition system is electronic.know what im saying.

My 2000 gmc van misfires in rainy weather then clears up.


Check the inside of your distributer cap, moisture will cause major problems. Start your jimmy and run water over and around your distributer, after awhile turn it off remove the cap and feel the inside for moisture...it might not be sealing right.

1985 4100 distributer shaft problem


Sounds like the clip came off the shaft and it fell inside bock. Get a new distributer and get number one cylinder up on compression stroke and drop distributer in pointing rotor at number one on distributer cap.
