How to remove dashboard from a 1998 Ford Windstar

This is a matter of finding all the hold down points. Up under the instrument panel you will find screws, under the dash itself you will find screws. Some are concealed behind plastic button like inserts for cosmetic purposes. There will most likely be a connection point in the ash tray. Once you get the bulk of the ones you can see then you will be able to find the rest by a light pull and find its holding point. The real trick is documenting where it all goes back and in what order.

How to install a headlight switch in a 2001 chevrolet suburban

  • 1.Park the vehicle on a smooth, level surface and set the parking brake. Tilt the steering column to its lowest position.
  • Place your right foot on the brake. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "On" position, but do not start the truck. Shift the gear shifter to its lowest position.

    • 3

  • Grab the dashboard bezel that goes around the radio and the gauge cluster with your hands, and pull it toward you to release the clips that hold it in place. Then unplug the wiring to the headlight switch and any other accessories on the panel (which change depending on what model of Sierra you own), using your hands. Pull the bezel away from the dashboard, and put the Sierra's transmission back in "Park."
  • 4Place the dashboard bezel face down on a work surface. There are two tabs on either side of the dashboard bezel holding the headlight switch in place. Use the flat-head screwdriver to gently pry these apart one at a time, then pull the switch out of the bezel. Be careful, because depending on how brittle your dashboard is, you can break these tabs fairly easily.
  • 5Push the replacement switch into the dashboard bezel. Then put your foot on the brake again, shift the truck into the lowest gear, and reinstall the wiring to the bezel using your hands. Push the bezel onto the dashboard to secure the clips, then put the truck back in Park and turn off the ignition

When lowering sterring column my headlights cut off

the head light switch is in the multifunction switch under the steering wheel. its wiring harness comes out from under the cosmetic cover of the steering column and attaches to the car's wiring. You need to get your head up under the dash and see where the connector plug/socket is being pulled apart by the downward motion of the column. or just leave it forever in the full up position. i would do a search on youtube for "dodge ram dashboard" and hopefully you can watch someone else doing it to see how the lower dash comes out on the driver side.

I would like to know how to change the heater motor in my jimmy

Many, many cars, including all the GMs I have ever owned, have the heater fan mounted in the heater box, which is behind the glovebox inside the dashboard. The beauty of the fan is that it is mounted on its end with the hardware accessible to anyone with their head in the position of the passenger's feet. There are just 3 or 4 screws and a plug to disconnect and the fan comes down in your hands. It has a gasket with some slightly gooey stuff on it. It looks like a hamster exercise wheel.
The new one goes back in the same way. Do yourself a favor and stick the hose of a vacuum cleaner in the hole and swirl it around gently a few times before you put the new fan in. These days there could be a dashboard wrap under cosmetic piece which will have to come out first. If you take a quick search on you will no doubt find videos of folks doing this same repair. There are thousands of car repair videos there.

The letter R is missing, can I replace it with another one?

now in all honesty the answer will be a no. The reason being, and the reason why I have not asked you for information confirming where the letter "r" is missing from; is because where you are missing the letter from, it is likely to be a cosmetic badge of somesort.

If you try to glue another one on to the outside of the car, you miht risk damaging your paintwork for one, and secondly it probably will not stick too well because of the dirt and surface grime (which would need to be removed first).

If however the cosmetic issue relates to the inside of the car, relacing the letter is going to look tacky and a "bodged" repair job to any prospective buyer if you then later scrap or sell the vehicle.

My best advice is to replace the entire badge or decorations with an exact copy of the original one. This way you wont have too much hassle about finding a matching case type and letter format; you also wont have to worry too much abouut aligning it up. The job will be cleaner and look smarter; and for the sake of a small amount of money, I would say its your best bet..

If the letter however i missing from your licence or registration plate (unikely, but you never know), then by law you will have to replace the whole lot. You will have tocheckwith your local authority in this case to find out what the laws and rules are in your area/ country.

I hope this is the fixya for you, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Yours sincerely

Someone attempted to steal the passenger side electric mirror on my 2006 Fusion SEL but only mannaged to break it halfway off and remove the mirror glass when they couldn't figure out how to remove it in...

Yes - there should be a cosmetic cover on the inside where the mirror connects.. Pop the cosmetic cover off and you will see how to detatch it from the car.

Repair a side mirror on a car

    1. Pop off the triangular piece that is just cosmetic on the upper flat part of the mirror where it is attached to the van.
    2. Under this piece are two visible bolts which you will need a Torx driver to remove.

    3. Open the passenger door all the way open and remove the 3rd bolt, which is exposed from the outside of the car.
    4. Expose the wiring harness plug by doing the following:
    a. Pull off the door weatherstripping along the top of the door and on the pillar (the part of the car to the left of the windshield) Do not completely remove the weatherstip - simply pull it away enough to execute the next step.

    b. Remove the plastic pillar cover: it simply snaps in. Pull hard and it will pop off
    c. Lift up the plastic cover over the speaker on top of the dashboard. This piece goes all the way across the dashboard. Simply lift it up enough to get your hands underneath it. There is no need to free it from the passenger side.

    d. Follow the mirror wiring harness around the rear of the speaker (the side nearest the engine) and unplug it from the female connector at the right-rear of the speaker. There may be a wire clip at the left-rear of the speaker that you will need to get the wire out of.
    5. Unplug the wire, remove the mirror, replace the mirror, reinstall everything
