1986 mercury cougar battery, keeps being drained and it's a new battery.

You either have a faulty alternator or there is a constant power drain on the battery when the car is switched off as a result of a fault in the electrical system.
1. Alternator
If i it is not charging fully as designed the only other source of power whilst you are running the car is the battery. Thus the battery will drain.

2. Slow power drain.
This will occur when the car is idle such as overnight. In this case, power is continually being delivered to a system on the car which is meant to be inactive due to a fault with the electrics. This can run the battery down so low the starter motor will not kick over when you try and start the car.

You need to get the car to a competent mechanic for tests so he can identify the cause and rectify it. For example if the old alternator is faulty and will not deliver sufficient charge to run the vehicle you will need to install a new one.

How do I disable KIA Rio 2013 door from automatically get locked when I start driving?

If you remove the inner door panel you shopuld be able to find a rod running from the door lock to a motor. It may be electric or vacuum. This is the mechanism that is actuated to lock the doors. Simply remove the rod form the lock or the motor, whichever is easiest. The motor continues to function but the door doesn't lock.

Check battery cables are correct ! Prime suspect here ! Alternator may be damaged and shorting .. Don't drive any car that will melt jumper cables ! Something very basic wrong here.

Engine fan runs constantly as you accelerate on 2004 durango 4.7l v8

Are you talking about the mechanical fan or the electric fan??Does the vehicle overheat??? If its the mechanical fan,,It could be stuck and staying locked up,,or it could be lock up because the electric fan is in operative..When you are idling or the a/c is on then the electric fan should be on..If its not ,,then the mechanical fan might be locked up due to the vehicle trying to run hott..But if the electric is comming on then the mechanical fan is probably bad..The electric fan is hard to see..You have to look up in front of thr mechanical fan..Hope this helps

you need to jack the car up and attempt to locate the starter and you can use a battery box to jump the system off the main wire on the starter needs to be boosted with another vehicle or a jumper box but that should charge the system enough to open the door hope that that gets you in there it worked on my 740IL BMW

You are describing a situation that would be solved by a replacement alternator. You say yours is fine ... I think I'd be inclined to have it checked by another mechanic.

The battery light comes on when you are using more power than you are making. Your car died because it had no electricity to run the spark plugs, the electric fuel pump, the computer, the lights, the instruments, the cooling fans, the security system, the automatic locks, the heater/AC - ventilation system, and other electrical powered devices required to make a modern car run.

In the good old days, a battery would run a car for weeks, in the day time (no lights) - with the only power requirement was the starter and the ignition. Today - cars are power hungry.

Yes, your car ran out of power last night and this morning it strarted fine and ran for a while. That was because your battery has SOME capability to recover overnight. Don't push your luck. Have an evaluation done by a professional mechanic.

ABS brake module sounds like a motor running and won't stop unless battery is disconnected. what is fix?

I would pull the fuse for the ABS hydraulic pump and then put it back in and see what happens. Don't ever recall a pump running. Dealer may need to hook up scan tool for diagnostic fault codes, DTCs.

Principles of Operation
The ABS control module receives wheel speed readings from both front wheel speed sensors and the rear differential speed sensor, and processes this information to determine if an ABS event is necessary. The wheel speed sensor electrically senses each tooth of the ABS sensor indicators as it passes through the wheel speed sensor's magnetic field.
The ABS control module continuously monitors and compares the rotational speed of each wheel speed sensor indicator and, when it detects an impending wheel lock, modulates brake pressure to the appropriate brake caliper(s). This is accomplished by triggering the hydraulic control unit (HCU) to open and close the appropriate solenoid valves. Once the affected wheel returns to normal speed, the ABS control module returns the solenoid valves to their normal position, and normal (base) braking resumes.
The ABS control module is self-monitoring. When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, the ABS control module will do a preliminary electrical check, and at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the pump motor is turned on for approximately one-half second. Any malfunction of the ABS system will cause the ABS to shut off; normal power assisted braking, however, remains.
Inspection and Verification — Scan Tool Communications Check
  1. Verify the customer concern by carrying out the Drive Cycle Test.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

  • Parking brake cable
  • Tire pressure
  • Tire size or mismatched tires
  • Blown fuse
  • Central junction box (CJB):
