YES.

LIKE WITH OIL, POWER STEERING FLUIDS ETC, OVERFILLING CAN CAUSE ISSUES, ALBEIT DIFF THAN THOSE WITH NOT ENUFF FLUID.

IF U KNOW THIS IS THE CASE, THE FLUID AMOUNT NEEDS TO BE
REDUCED.

CALL A SUBARU DEALER, OR A GARAGE YOU KNOW THAT SPECIALIZES IN IMPORTS.

PICK THEIR BRAIN.

THEN, AFTER DOING THAT, HAVE IT TAKEN TO ANY GARAGE AFTER THAT, ASSUMING YOU OR SUMONE YOU KNOW CANNOT DO IT YOURSELF.

Too much transmission fluid is as bad if not worse than none at all your causing the gearbox to splash around fluid try and drain some off hopefully you wont have damaged the box remember to bleed system u do this by selecting all gears while stationary

If you have too much fluid in the transmission, depending on how much it is over filled this could be a problem. So the first thing to do is to drain the fluid and fill to the correct level. Recheck the operation of the trans. If it still doesn't work you could have internal transmission trouble. You should take it to a trans shop to have the thing inspected.

1995 subaru legacy reverse is slipping think it could be a solenoid? Which solenoid and where can I find it? Thanks in advance. Yahthay

This is not an electrical issue as you suspect.
These transmissions operate each gear you select by pressurizing the valve body passage that engages the gear. Get a transmission specialist to test/inspect the valve body to determine the actual cause. It could be as simple as original fluid in the car or the valve body is losing pressure. Worst case is the main pump is failing then getting a working used transmission would be the least expensive repair

92 Subaru Legacy 4 speed automatic transmission awd stops an rocks back in forth when manually placed in first gear, why?

I suspect that you have higher mileage on the transmission and its a worn out the first gear clutch pack. I would get it checked by a proper transmission repair shop.

Reverse lights don't work. replaced switch and checked fuse and bulbs 1997 subaru legacy

is this car an automatic transmission? if it is then you will need to check the gear selector switch on the transmission. I have seen one that would not properly engage for the park/neutral and reverse switches to function but the car was still drivable.

Need diagram for 1995 subaru legacy automatic transmission. 176K , Reverse went out about 10 months ago but all other gears shift fine. Have driven from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe 4/5 times with no...

It's a bad solenoid. Reverse and low gears work off the same set of clutches. If you have first gears , then its a solenoid problem. I would first start by pulling plugs, transmission, TCM and everything in between. Check for corrosion, Use an ohm meter and check the wires for continuity. On some models the safety neutral switch/ range selector switch has a lot to do with how the transmission shifts. If the tcm can't read the switch it wont send power to the solenoid. so far I haven't found a place that will sell just solenoids. You have to buy the whole package. These start at about $200.00

Where is dip stick for subaru legacy

Should be a yellow handle sticking up that says oil on it. I think you have 2 for the transmission, one for gear oil and one for transmission fluid. Hope this helps.

Transmission does not engage into reverse sometimes.

Sounds like filter and fluid change would be in order. If it does finally go into reverse that would be my best guess. Hope this helps and have a great day.

Reverse went out on my 93 legacy

I have a 93 that had the same problem and drove the car for over a year with no reverse. Just had to watch where I parked it. When it was cold, reverse would work. After it warmed up, no reverse. Clutch disc in auto transmission was slipping. Tried fuilds and filter with no help. Ended up swapping out entire transmission with another good used one and that fix me up. Hope this helps.
