Find out what caused the distributor cap to melt...except for ones in a fire, I have never seen one melt for any reason. Likely if you find out why it melted, you will find out why it's not starting.

You've already eliminated the spark plug & wireset, distributor cap & rotor.
Sounds like your car needs a tune-up, specifically, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve, and/of the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve.

Components checked/replaced during a tune-up are:
air filter
motor oil
motor oil filter
breather filter
fuel filter(s)
fuel strainer
PCV valve
EGR valve
spark plugs
spark plug wires
ECM or distributor cap & rotor
cabin air filter
transmission oil filter
transmission oil
engine coolant
check all vacuum hoses and lines

1992 F150 5.0 flooded

Hi, wow!

sounds bad, I would drain the oil and leave it over night to drip out so it is completely dry, leave all oil caps an anything that will allow air in off the truck.

Do you have a compressor or air line you could use to blast air through the engine. if this is diesel fuel then it will take much longer to evaporate if this is gas/petrol then over night should do it.

Hope this helps

Dan

Starts fine, but then bogs out when accelerating, practicaly have to give it no gas and creep up to speed.Doesn't want to go up hills. Just replaced the cpi, fuel filter and fuel pump 3 months ago. Also...

Check the fuel pressure regulator and the EGR valve, I would check the fuel pressure regulator first and go from there. Good luck and keep me posted. Not sure what the pressure should be but thinking it's 62 to 65 PSI upon start up and should drop 5 PSI when engine running, check the vacuum line to the regulator.

Wont start 1996 jeep grand cherokee laredo inline six4.0 fuel inj

The first thing I would do since you think it was flooded is to replace the sparkplugs, sometimes if a spark plug has been washed out with gas you cannot get it completely dried out. After you replace sparkplugs try to start the engine. If the engine starts I would still recommend that you change your oil because of fuel saturation. If your engine fails to start I would suspect that you have a bad crankshaft position sensor as it is known to give problems. The crankshaft position sensor is located on the top of the transmission bell housing on the drivers side.

1996 jeep grand cheerokee laredo, wont start.

Of course you are. Try drying it up and restart. If it still doesn't start, take the air filter assembly sitting on thecarburetor . Open the carburetor. Inside it, is a float, that closes the fuel valve when the reservoir is full and open it, when the fuel goes down the level. This control the fuel flow into your engine. You can adjust this such that it is just parallel to the cover holding it. Be careful in removing the carburetor cover. This hold a small valve just above the float. Do not lost it. When everything is checked up. You can assemble the carburetor, and screw it back in place.
Put the air filter assembly back in place. Now, that
you are done, you can restart your car engine. Good
working, you can do it.

95 dodge neon shuts off while driving

After it kills, pull a plug wire and check for spark. If it has spark, check for fuel. I can't remeber where the service port is on the F.I of a Neon but it'll look like a tire air valve cap but a little larger. It''l be on the fuel rail or line somewhere under the hood.

Take the cap off and depress the valve. If fuel doesn't squirt out (not drip), you're losing pressure. Neons were bad about fuel pumps so it MIGHT be this. They run a little over $200 for just the pump. I had a retail unit that kept doing this due to fuel deposits from Ethanol. It kept clogging the "filter" sock in the tank. After it set a while the stuff would sink back to the bottom and the car would start back up.

Make sure the spark plug is touching a metal spot on the engine. It has to be grounded to spark. Also check to see if you are getting fuel.
