Question about Subaru Outback

1 Answer

2001 Subaru Outback. Had problems with the engine feeling like it was going to stall when stop at a light or stop sign (actually stalled twice but started right up). Then had problems getting going up hills or from a stop. Once the car got above 2000 rpms it was fine. Had new plugs, wires and overall tune up done, also new PCV put in. Yesterday the car was fine, today I was back to the same problem. Check engine light came on once but has not been on at all since that one time. Has been colder at night lately, not sure if this has something to do with it but it never had this problem before.

Was told the fuel injectors need to cleaned. Said to spray the intake with cleaner. Does that sound like that could be the problem?

Try replaceing the fuel filter and if that does not do it then it may be the pump. you can rent a fuel pressuer tester to test to see if fuel pump is going out. If you rent one and need to know how to check let me know and I will put the proccedure here for you.

When you changed the ****** fluid was it brown? If so I regret to inform you, you may need a new transmission. The brown color is due to the clutches in the trans, wearing down over time. Does it shift hard when you drive it? If it does that is another sign the trans has gone out the window.

I would have the head gasket checked.
When the engine is cold check the rad and overflow bottle.
These motors have a tendency to leak externally at the head gasket towards the rear of the engine.
Low coolant will cause over heating at the engine and loss of heat inside the car due to vapor locks.

2001 Outback sluggish below 2000 rpms.

This may be a catalytic converter plugged up problem. Have a muffler shop take a look.

How do you reset engine check light on 2004 Subaru Outback?

u can clear/reset the check engine light either with a scan tool, hit clear codes, or u can just disconnect the battery, the scanner clearing method is preferred as disconnecting the battery can cause temporary stalling issues.

If I understand you correctly, you feel a vibration it the brake pedal when you apply the brakes. Is that correct?
Have your brake rotors re surfaced; they are warped.

"engine makes cavitating noise" ....what does this mean?
