Question about 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 1995 jeep cherokee se. Runs fine most of the time. If I run in for an extended period of time, the engine quits running. If I leave it set for a half hour or so, it will start up no problem. From what I figure, I think something is overheating. My reason for that is after the engine stops I can decrease the down time till it starts back by lifting the hood and get more air to the engine. If I leave the hood down, it takes longer to refire.

First off what does the temperature guage say. Second does the truck seem to be excessively hot when you open the hood. If it is overheating does it seem to be losing water. If it is overheating change the thermostat and gasket cheapest fix. Makes sure that the fan is working properly and that the water pump is moving the water around. Change the radiator cap also this can cause it to overheat. Also make sure when it does shut down again that you are getting fire to the plugs when turning the truck over if you are not getting power then you have an ignition problem probably a control module or cam plate sensor.

95 cherokee. After basis tune up runs rough. smooths out @ 2000rpms. Now won't start. Engine cranks fine. Help.

ok before tune up?
basic , means, on old cars.
cap ,rotor ,wires, sparkplugs (gapped right) and all filters.
so change the spark wires 1 by one, or it will never run.
i bet you scrambled the wires. (I4?)
if I4 there are 1million posts on line to set up the 4L, I4, engine.

My grand cherokee runs smooth for a little while and then sputters for a while. if i step on gas a little harder and then let off, it runs smooth for a little while again. what could it be?

check idle speed settings, and idle sellenoid.
most older cars that i have seen would do this when left to idle for long periods of time.
you might check fule filter, and for impureites in fule, such as water.

With 2 PCM already replaced without clearing stored faults using the DRB scan tool the vehicle runs for a period of time but would start with no engine acceleration power until worst scenario of engine...

I would find out what codes were set, if you can, and start from there. if you have already replaced 2 pcm's then you got problems else where that are feeding back to the computer and killing it. ley me know.

Engine runs fine, no problem want's tempature is

I had a similar problem with a Ford Excursion, it turned out to be intake manifold gaskets. It would stall then start right up again, it ran fine during warm up. But, once fully warmed up it would stall at stop lights and stuff like that. I did get a check engine light, the code was lean condition. I don't know on a Jeep, sorry I can't be of more help.
