I worked on a Mazda 323 this one time, and the axle on one side was a real bear to get out. The retaining ring on the end of the shaft was open too much, and it ended up getting sheared off. It took a tremendous amount of force. I don't think I've ever said more four-letter words than with this one. What a SOB. I hope that you won't have to pull teeth with yours. The biggest pry bar you can find should suffice. Good luck!

How to remove front axle

first and foremost "brake" the lug nuts loose, then you are going to want lift the front of the vehicle using a quality jack and support the front of the vehicle with approved jack stands(don\'t forget to set the parking brake!) . remove front wheels, then if a impact gun is not available have a friend hold their foot on the brake .now using a braker bar and the proper socket "brake" the axle nut(in the center of the brake rotor) loose . now your home free- remove lower ball joint and tie rod end nuts and remove tie rod and ball joint from spindle( the parts with the brake rotor and caliper on it)by tapping rather hard on the side of them both with a ballpeen hammer(at this point they should just"pop" out of their sockets).now holding spindle by the brake rotor swing it outward while pushing "in" on the end of the threads for the axle . with the axle now out of the spindle with a small pry bar reach in between where the axle meets the transmission (be careful not to damage seal by using a flashlight to keep an eye on what your doing.now pry rather forcefully and the axle when"pop" out. make sure and have a shallow drin pan under the trans as when you take the axle out fluid will follow.reverse the procedure and don\'t forget to top-off the trans fluid.even if none came out during axle install it is always a great idea to check this fluid when doing axles as fluid is a lot cheaper than a trans.

Remove

You will have to get a pry bar in between the Trans and half shaft/ axle and use pushing force to remove. I've used leg power on certain cars to remove axle

How do you remove rear axle from 1995 ford ranger 2 wheel drive need to replace oil seal

Raise the vehicle and properly support it. Remove the wheel and drum. Remove the rear diff cover, have a drain pan underneath to catch the gear oil. Place the trans in nuetral, chalk the front wheels to keep vehicle from moving if you forget to put it back into park befor you lower the vehicle. Rotat the differential until you see the bolt that holds the diff pin in place. Remove the bolt, 5/16 or 8 mm I believe. You can then remove the diff pin, do not rotate the diff with the diff pin removed! Push the axle in, you can then remove the C-clip that holds the axle to the side gear, it will usuall drop or just fall out. Pull the axle out of the rear diff and replace the seal. Put everything back together. Use black or grey RTV to reseal the diff cover making sure o clean up both surfaces as best you can. Put trans in park. Lower the vehicle. Remove the fill plug from the side of the differential and fill with gear lube until lube comes out the hole. Reinstall the plug and your good to go. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Having trouble with the 4x4 on my 97 GMC suburban. When I push the button for four wheel drive the transfer case shifts and the front drive shaft turns but the front axle will not lock in. The trans went...

There is a front differential actuator on the side of the front axle housing .. select 4x4 inside the cab and check for 12 volts with a test light at the plug for the actuator. If you have power and ground when in 4x4 the actuator has failed ( common ) . If there is no power it is possible they did no plug everything back in on transfercase and left a harness unplugged or damaged. Let me know what you find and I can help further.
Good luck.

Cannot remove transmission

Did you remove the torque converter bolt's from the fly wheel, should be 4. You will have to turn the motor by hand to remove all the bolt's.
