How to replace blower motor on a 1997 saab 900 se. I need a diagram of where it is located....thanks

The blower motor is located behind the firewall in the engine compartment. You can access it by removing the plastic cover above the firewall beneath the windshield.Remove the screws securing the firewall. You now have access to the blower motor but it has to be separated from the evaporator housing. The complete list of instruction are too many to list here.Go to the website SAABNET and do a search on the bulletin board New Generation 900 section and post your question. You can print the instructions out.

The fan does not turn on when I turn on the a/c or heater in my 1996 saab 900 se

It's most likely the blower motor resistor or relay. My money is on the resistor. It's a pretty common issue on all makes and models of vehicles. I'm not sure where yours is located. Domestic cars and trucks have them on the top of the blower motor housing which is behind the glove box on the passenger side. A few torx bit screws remove the box liner, and a socket removes the couple of nuts holding the resistor on. Other than that, it's just a pigtail wire harness that plugs into it. Pretty easy job. The resistor for your vehicle (96 Saab 900 SE) is $53.99 locally here in Minnesota.

SPARK PLUG GAP

These engines use platinum plugs-you don't gap these type of plugs because you will damage te platinum electrode and cause misfire problems. Make sure you use bosch platinum factory recommended plugs and if he vehicle has more than 75k i would recommend replacing your plug wires as well/

Saab 900 se missfireing

If you have plug wires you have a naturally aspirated Saab (non-turbo). The entire ignition system must be checked. First, replace the cap and rotor. They are wear/maintenance parts, are cheap, and can be gotten at most auto parts stores (even for Saab). Next, if the high tension leads (plug wires) had cracks and that is why you taped them up, they MUST be replaced. Mere electrical tape will not prevent voltage leakage through these cracks. Make absolutely certain the plugs are resistor and of the proper specs for your model year and engine and that are gapped dead on to spec. Another common wear part is the cam position sensor (a Hall effect sensor that tells the ECU what position the cams are in). You did not mention whether the CEL light is on or whether you retrieved any codes from the OBD port. Go to Autozone or Advance Auto and let them put a code reader on the port to see if you have any active and stored codes (this is free). Finally, a crankshaft position sensor (crank angle sensor) failure could be imminent. This is a known failure part as well.
