Hood will not release when pulling the Hoodlatch cable
How to raise the hood of a 1996 Ford Aerostar Mini-van when the latch is frozen? I have been told that the bolts/screws that hold the latch locking mechanism cannot be reached from underneath this vehicle as with older model vehicles. Not to mention that to get the locking mechanism out I will need to take the front grill out, (LOL) but for me to be able to do that I need the hood up. So can you please help me as I am having starting issues with this vehicle & need to get under the hood to clean my battery terminals???? I appreciate any and ALL HELP with this matter!!!!!!

Re: Hood will not release when pulling the Hoodlatch...
Takeing off your grill is a great starting place to get to your hood release. Another thing to look for is if the cable might be hung up see if u can spray a generous amount of spray lube all over ur hood release and cable.

You can add power by plugging a socket into your lighter hole and connect that to an external battery. I used the wiring of my "car vacuum cleaner" designed to work off the lighter. Connect, switsh ignition on and pull relese. There is enough power to activate latch.
if the cable is broken inside the truck stripping down the cable and pulling it with pliers will open the hood replace cable or you can use a wire hanger at the front of the truck above the ford badge the hoodlatch is there fish around under the switch torward the right untill hood opens
Try this, when you are pulling on the release inside the car, have somebody push down on the hood itself. Sometimes that will work if the cable is still connected and just alittle old. I hope this helped and good luck.
there should be a lever that is on the bottom edge of dash that is under the steering wheel along the trim. if the handle is broken you can use pliers to grab the cable and pull it to get the hood to realse. if you found all that and i seems to work ok then when pulling the release lever have a friend hit or shake the hood to get it to pop up a little so that you can open it all the way.
If you pull out on hood release & it feels like some resistance cable is not broken. Have someone pull release & hold pulled outward while you hit the front of the hood near grill, with palms of your hands. If it releases upward, release 2nd catch. Raise hood & locate plastic or rubber hood stops. There is one on each side of hood screwed into radiator core support. Raise each one an even full turn. This will allow it to release properly.
Unfortunately no. There are two things to try though.
If when you pull the release it feels as though the latch is releasing (without the hood rising), try pushing the hood down (relatching), giving it a sharp rap right above the latch or prying the hood up.
If when you pull the release nothing happens: Get a flashlight and a long set of needlenose pliers. Look through the front grill and locate the latch. You should be able to find the release cable. Grab it with the needle nose and pull it away from the latch. You'll hear it release.
