What a bizare thing to do ? Try picking at it with two large diaper pins, or similar thin metal shaft with pointy end. Buying another ignition barrel & key from breakers yard may be your only solution, that & a slide-hammer to drag your barrel out, butchery but effective. You wont fiddle again in a hurry after this.

Buy small o-ring picks or cut two thin strips of a cheap metal finger nail file that will fit key way and slide them on the sides of saw blade the teeth of the blade will grab into the sides of the file

Your flywheel may have broke or the crank could have broke. If the crank broke the engine is done. Try to turn the engine over by hand. You can put a socket on the crank pully bolt and try to turn it.make sure the key is off and out of the ignition. Sorry for your loss.

Either the start relay is stuck, the ignition switch is defective or someone messed up the wiring. I'd start by checking out the relay then check the ignition by checking for battery voltage when the ignition is turned to start (at the relay)

When you say you have to mess around with the ignition, are you saying it clicks while you are turning the key to the starting position until it takes off? If so, you would need to replace the starter because you have a dead spot in the electrical windings most likely. It could be a solenoid, but I am guessing the starter is your problem if I am guessing correctly on what you mean by messing around with the ignition.

Good Luck

put you key near the ignition switch the key has a passive antitheft chip in it and the car senses it isnt there so it wont stay running the pcm detects it is being stolen so it shuts down. if the key is near the pick up it should read the key as being there
