2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee manual door locks & remote not working

Several months ago, my remote stopped working regularly so I replaced the batteries and cleaned the contacts. That didn't help. Presently, the remote seldom works and I unlock the door with the key (the old fashioned way.) When I try to unlock the rest of the doors manually by hitting the lock switch on the driver's side door, that doesn't always work now either. If I keep flipping the lock switch, it will occasionally work, but not always. Sometimes, holding the remote inside the car and repeatedly pushing the unlock button will open the doors, but not always. Obviously, I have the same type of problems whether I am locking or unlocking the doors. The locks should engage when the vehicle reaches 15 mph, but don't always. The power windows work fine. This is frustrating and will really be bad in a few months when it's below zero and my freezing child is desperate to get into the car! Peace & Thanks! Betsy

I had the same problem recently. The dealership diagnosed the pblm as a corroded wire in the door frame that is responsible for all power windows and power locks locks. A simple rewiring and resoldering (approx. 150 CAD$) fixed the problem.

There is a broken wire in the rubber casing between the door and the vehicle. Take the rubber casing off and you will more than likely find a broken wire or one about to break. Been there and done that.

Power windows/locks driver's 6 switch control

I am thinking you have broken wires in your drivers door jamb. Most of the window/lock problems I have run across on these trucks are broken wires in door jambs.

To answer your question, no, the switches are not available individually. If your mechanic finds no broken wires and still wants to replace the switches I would call to several recycled parts yards.
