How long before it re-starts? Fuel filter been changed lately? Sounds like maybe fuel pump going or filter plugged but need more info on symptoms to be sure. Happens more on hot day than cool day ? Does amount of fuel in tank make any difference on how far you can go before it happens, such as when 1/4 full, compared to 3/4 full?

Car randomly wont turn on/bogs down and dies

Could be a bad engine ground connection. There should be a cable connected between the engine block and the frame. If this is loose, it could cause intermittent failure of your ignition and your starter to operate properly.

Rough idle

Sounds like a automatic choke sticking....Take the air duct loose from carb..While accelerating engine spray bottle throttle spray in.....as the car tries to die...stop spraying...Repeat 3 or 4 times.....It will clean your injectors. Runs alot better...Remember....bottle throttle spray...not carborator spray

Car starts but wants to die out right away have to play with the gas padle

A 1986 Mustang with a 4 cyl engine should have a carb and a choke. It sounds like the choke is not closing and-or the fast idle cam is not raising the idle speed until the choke opens.

Engine quit when stopped at stop light. Acted as if it was choking then died. Tried restarting. Turns over strong, no start. Thought maybe no gas. Added gas after about 30 minutes. Started first try....

Sounds like the fuel pump is going out. Replace the filter first, as it's only $10. If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably the pump, which is $250.

Engine dies but starts again but won't continue to run . Was driving home last night and all of a sudden noticedI was losing speed and couldn't excilerate. Pull over and engine died but I could restart it....

You may need a new fuel filter. When you start the engine all the particles in the filter begin to dam up until they choke off the fuel entirely. When the engine dies the particles fall back down allowing enough fuel flow to start the engine and the whole pocess repeats itself. Thanks, Dana

My 1978 ford bronco dies and doesnt want to restart. The motor has 2000 miles on it. It has a new electric fuel pump, coil distributor, cap, rotor, wires, plugs. it does the same exact thing with 2 diferant...

Float could be stuck, if it's carbureted or gasket under carb could be loose. Tighten and also put new filter in it. Could be bad injectors, if it's EFI which I doubt knowing the year. Could be choke setting wrong. I like manual choke myself. Try starting it with something holding choke open like a screwdriver handle. Something not too flammable.

Truck losing power and service engine soon light on

Like to other guy said, give it a tuneup. Also try SEAFOAM to clean carb up of slug. Also check to make sure the butter fly for the choke has not come loose, causing it the choke it down. Failed choke pull-off.
