Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

2 Answers

Car was running find day before, then in morning it had problems starting and it sounded like it was flooded but then it started but the engine was shakeing and studdering. I took it to autozona and they hooked it up to diag machine and the code came out as p0300. The guy at autozone said I need a ignition control module and a ignition coil. I really don't really know what to think at this point.?

The p0300 code is a multipe random misfire in the engine, and number of things can cause this, the cheapest action is to change the plugs first, if no fix, then it may be the ignition coil that sits on top of the plugs, try to get the specs for it, and use a ohm meter and check the coils before replacing, I dont think it is a cheap part, and only from the dealer most likely. these are the most likely culprits, if coil specs out okay, then start checking wire from coil back to computer, if its clean, it can be the computer, try a wreaking yard for the coil and computer if need be they may be cheaper.

I personally would go with the code diagnosis,I ignored a similar situation and it cost me more.

Truck will not start in the mornings and will run down the battery trying.

The fuel injector underneath the intake manifold have a common leakage problem causing the engine to flood and not allowing the engine to start. Check the fuel pressure upon cranking in the morning. That is a good place to start.

Sounds like a faulty fuel pressure regulator.Pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator. If fuel runs out of it replace the regulator.

1999 chevy silverado truck will start first thing in the morning, but then has problems starting the rest of the day. Sounds and smells flooded too. Starts best when its very cold outside.

In the morning if you turn the key w/o starting it and let it sit a while before starting, does it have trouble starting / smell flooded? If so, likely a bad / leaky injector.

Otherwise, I'd check the O2 sensor(s), likely have a bad one.

hope this helps.

1989 mpv mazda does not start on cold mornings and days

I'm assuming the engine cranks with the starter but does not start and run.

check the operation of the cold start injector. This is a separate fuel injector that injects fuel into the intake manifold to help richen up the mixture for cold starts. It operates on a timer that is linked to a sensor that measures engine coolant temperature. Once warm or the timer runs out, the cold start injector is turned off. Other things to check:

Fuel pressure too high (floods engine through cold start injector), engine coolant temp sensor or intake air temp sensor is stuck at full hot (doesn't allow enough fuel for cold starts), fuel injectors are leaking (floods engine with fuel).

You may have a leaking fuel injector that is flooding the intake with fuel while it sits overnight. Try holding the throttle in the wide open position while trying to start the engine. This will allow the maximum amount of air to enter the combustion chambers. If it is a flooding problem this should get it started a little quicker. If the engine has not been tuned up recently, a new set of spark plugs could do wonders for the early morning start up. Get a premium spark plug such as NGK Iridiums. My personal preference is a plug called E3.

XJ8L would not start

You may have a gasket leaking oil to the engine cylinders. Once you got it started the oil burned off and the engine will run fine until the next time....
Unfortunately, on this car, it a VERY expensive problem to get fixed.
If the problem occurs again, be careful not to flood the engine. Try to get it running again, and take it in for a professional estimate and repair.

Engine Floods after brief start and run when cold -then shut off

Local mechanic determined engine was flooded and started it by holding throttle to the floor and cranking 5-7 seconds - then the engine sputtered to life. It has run perfectly before and since and I'm at a bit of loss to understand why this occurred this one time - so far. It's been driven now 5 days with no problems.
