You may need a trottle position senor or you are sucking air into the intake from somewhere.

Probably the timing chain has jumped a cog. Aim a timing light at the timing mark and ensure that it stays in one place when idling. If it jumps around erratically the timing chain has jumped. If not that it could be the fuel filter, plugs and or wires, etc.

YOU NEED TO ADJUST IDLE SPEED TO 750 RPM FOR THE 2.4L ENGINE AND THE 3.0L ENGINE IDLE SPEED NEEDS TO BE 800 RPM.THAT IS THE REASON WHY TRUCK STALLING YOU NEED REALLY TUNE UP ENGINE THEN ADJUST IDLE SPEED.

1990 toyota pickup with 22re engine and 235000 miles failed smog in cali.,not because of emissions but because timing was at 30 degrees instead of 10. It starts and runs well. I have not adjusted timing ....

Reset the engine timing by first jumping pins E1 and Te1 in the grey box under the hood. If the truck runs poorly set to proper timing, your timing chain has jumped a tooth. Does it rattle bad at idle? Id so, the guides are worn out, and the chain is stretched.

My 89 toyota pickup 22re fuel injected serges when idling when its warmed up

The Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) may need cleaning or replacement.

This valve lets air bypass the throttle plate so that the engine can idle. The more air, the faster the idle. If this valve is sticky, the computer may have a hard time regulating the idle properly and may surge.

My 89 Toyota pickup idles too fast in cold weather

I would have a look at your coolant sensor, if it's reading the wrong temperature, it will cause a idle problem. If you can, get a scanner on it to verify it's operation.

1994 toyota pickup idling problems

Could be a throttle position sensor going bad or a loose or leaking vacumm line or loose or worn wiring harness. You had mentioned the engine starts heating up. Do you mean overheating or operating above normal temperature? Sounds like a vacumm issue with the fluctuating idle. Check for worn vacumm lines and check to see if the vacumm is functioning. Sometimes a simple vacumm line with a loose connection or a small hole in it can affect your idle. Old lines are easily replaceable and an inexpensive place to start, then try your egr valve, pcv valve, brake booster vacumm line, oxygen sensor could be worn and affecting the mapping of fuel and air on the computer. Usually the check engine light will come on in this case.

1990 Toyota Pickup Idle engine surging?

If the engine is surging/idle increasing and then decreasing at idle, have your guy check for leaks between the air flow meter and the engine, also, if no leaks are found, Check/replace the throttle position sensor

88 toyota has little power when gas is pressed

your engine seems to be running rich. that may be do to a bad spark plug, spark plug wire, bad distributor cap. If you have a 22re you should check for trouble codes by jumping TE1 and E1.

You should also check your engine timing. With a timing light. The timing marks are located on or above the oil pump. keep in mind in order to get timing right you must have TE1 and E1 jumped. Set to 5 degrees advanced. If your engine is improperly timed it will accelerate slowly, and get worse mileage.

Also adjust/Check engine valves appropriately. they will cause low power.

Also does it misfire at idle?
