Buy a traany filter kit comes with a new filter and tranny pan gasket. put car on ramps and unloosen the tranny pan back bolts first ( do not take out bolts completely!!! just loosen them first. easier with 2 people. have a drain pan the size of / or close to the size of the pan. loosen one of the back of the pan corners one bolt at a time till it starts draining.. loosen more bolts away from the starting corner and let more fluid drain out.. keep doing this till 3/4 of all tranny pan bolts are removed. then hold up a garbage bag all around the pan and take out remaining bolts!! there will be still some fluid in the pan. garbage bag will catch it.. then the easy part , scrap old gasket off the pan and where the pan was on the tranny.. you will see the filter location once the pan is removed . 2-3 bolts to take off old filter, put on new!!!soundsharder than it is!! those kits sell between $10-30

Buy a new gasket and screen. Get under there with a bucket and unscrew all the bolts holding the tranny pan up. Try to let one corner down first, so it drains into the bucket. It will be real messy. Put in the new screen and gasket. Be sure the bolt holes on the pan are flat. They get pushed in if tightened too much. Bolt up the pan again, tightening the bolts evenly and not too tight. Add six quarts of tranny fluid. Run it and check for leaks. That's it.

When to change the transmition fluid?

as the car of 2013 should still be under manufacturer warranty, it is best to check the service book or with your honda dealer. Usually it needs trans fluid change around 100,000 miles.

Hi, I have a 1995 volvo 850 with automatic tranny...all forward gears work fine but reverse does not engage unless you stick your foot out the door and roll the car back 2-4 feet then you can feel reverse...

check the transmition fluid level, ( do this with the engine running & the selector in P) if low top up & see if fault cured
also check fluid is no dis-coloured or smells burnt, if so you may have to drain the transmition & change the filter & fluid, a transmition flush would be a good idea.
if the problem remains it is most likely the seals/clutches in the transmition are worn

2001 maxima se slips when shifting into 2nd and 3rd only if driving easy. Seems fine under hard accel. It revs to 3500rpm before it grabs. Makes it hard to drive easy. Any Ideas? Thankyou Very Much, Jon

make sure you have the proper fluid level and that the tran fluid is the correct type ... you could have a clogged intake filter .. thats inside the transmition and is normally changed when fluid is changed .. however if the fluid has never been changed then it becomes a problem when you do .. the new fluid can wash deposits off of surfaces that end up clogging passagways and the filter .. so there is another way .. you can have the transmition "flushed" .. they force a cleaning fluid thru the tranny and torque converter .. that washes out gunk .. that service is a little over $100 many places .. however you have to make a judgment call here .. your 2001 may have enough miles that the transmition is at end of life ... they wear out usually before 150,000 miles .. sometimes well before that ... you can sometimes tell if there is damage by looking at the fluid .. if its dark or smells burned then thats a sign of a damaged transmition .. if your fluid level is low then thats the lowest cost repair .. just put in the proper amount (check running in park for most cars) ... the cleaning wont help if there is damaged parts but will if its just clogged up .. a mechanic can help you make that judgment .. you will have to do something soon because whatever is the problem it will only get worse until it quits altogether, that might leave yoiu standed .. ..that can only increase the cost of repairs and limit your selection of repair shops .. good luck ..

Transmition slip

Change the fluid and the filter and see if that helps, if it continues to slip then the forward clutch pack is worn out and the trans will need to be torn down and repaired. :)
