Brake rotor and front or rear?

Okay, remove the wheel then remove the brake caliper and move to side do not allow to hang on the brake hose, use a hook to hang off spring or set aside. next remove the caliper bracket, two bolts at rear of bracket to remove it.
next you will use a hammer to remove the rotor.

NOTE: the way the brake rotor was designed was a bad one the hub in which the rotor slides over and the wheel studs slide into holes on the rotor is bad the hub diameter is almost the same size as the diameter of the seat of the rotor that slide over the hub and what happens is sometimes the rust build up on the rotor seat locks the brake rotor on the hub. i do not know if you are reusing the rotors or replacing them, no sure what job you are doing . the rotors to take off you will need to tap on the rear of them with a little force and turn, hit and turn. you will need to see if they break free or if hard beating and spraying into the rear of them is needed with wd40.
Alot of these rotors also have two threaded hole on the face of the rotor near the studs so that you can screw two bolts into holes to help pull them. use wire to tie caliper up and also use a c-clamp to push piston into calipe to remove caliper if needed, Do not remove brake hose, there is no need to open system, here is a picture of the rotor coming of the hub, also there may be clips on the stud holding rotor on remove them use cutters or pry off do not need to reuse , they are to help in holding the rotor on during asm, if you want you can buy them and reinstall them but never reuse them.12_25_2012_5_41_09_pm.png

I need to replace the driver side half shaft on a 2003 olds alero.


Remove wheel, brake caliper bracket, rotor, tie brake caliper up out of the way as to not put tension on the hose, remove hub bearing & assembly, yank c.v shaft out (just held in by clips) pop new shaft in securely, reassemble hub, brakes & wheel.

How to take back rotors off a 1994 honda civic.


PATH: Brakes > Front Disc Brakes > Brake Disc (Rotor) > Removal & Installation Removal & Installation
  1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove the caliper assembly; do not let the caliper assembly hang by the brake hose, instead support it with a piece of wire looped around the front spring or control arm.
  3. Remove the retaining screw from the brake rotor and remove the rotor from the hub.

An impact driver, No. 3 phillips screwdriver bit, and a hammer may be needed to remove the retaining screw. It is fairly easy to destroy the screw slots using an ordinary phillips screwdriver to remove the tightly driven screw (see photo).

  1. To install the disc, replace the disc on the hub, screw in the retaining screw and replace the caliper assembly.

  3. Disconnect the caliper from the caliper bracket. Support the caliper out of the way with a length of wire. Do not allow the caliper to hang from the brake hose.

  5. Remove the two 6mm screws and the brake disc. If the brake disc is difficult to remove, install two 8mm bolts into the threaded holes and tighten them evenly to prevent cocking the rotor.
  6. Install the rotor in position. Install the two 6mm retaining screws.
  7. Install the brake caliper. Install the tire and wheel assembly.

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Floor jack
  • Jack stand(s)
  • Wheel chock
  • Turkey baster
  • DOT 3 brake fluid
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 1/2-inch drive breaking bar
  • 1/2-inch drive socket set (up to 21 mm)
  • 1/2-inch drive ratchet
  • 1/2-inch drive adjustable torque wrench (recommended)
  • Impact screwdriver with Phillips head bit
  • Hammer
  • Bungee cord
  • C-clamp
  • Brake clean spray
  • Shop rag(s)
    How to Replace Front Rotors on a Mazda6
  1. Step 1 Park the Mazda6 on a flat paved surface. Apply the parking brake and release the hood latch. Place a wheel chock behind one of the rear tires and open the hood. **** out half the fluid from the master cylinder reservoir using the turkey baster and discard. Replace the master cylinder cap securely.
  2. Step 2 Break the lug nuts loose on the front tire, using the breaking bar and a 21-mm socket. Raise the left quarter panel first with the floor jack and place the jack stand under the left front frame rail. You can lift the right side too or just do one side at a time. Remove the lug nuts and the wheel when elevated.
  3. Step 3 Pry the two plastic caliper slide bolt covers off with the flathead screwdriver and remove the caliper slide bolts with the ratchet and a socket. Pry the caliper off the pads and rotor with the screwdriver and support it to the coil spring with the bungee cord so it does not dangle by the brake hose. Compress the piston of the caliper inward using the C-clamp until the piston bottoms out in the caliper casing.
  4. Step 4 Remove the pads from the caliper anchor by prying them out gently with the screwdriver. Be sure to memorize how they were positioned in the anchor so you can replace them the same way in the event you're not replacing the pads as well. Remove the caliper anchor bolts using the ratchet and a socket. They're going to be extremely tight, so be prepared. Remove the caliper anchor.
  5. Step 5 Locate the retaining screw on the hub face of the rotor. Use the impact screwdriver in the reverse position with a Phillips head bit and strike the end of the screwdriver with the hammer. Remove the screw. Remove the rotor. If it is stubbornly stuck to the hub, strike it a few times with force on the plated fins of the rotor.
  6. Step 6 Spray the new rotor with brake clean and be generous to clean off the oil coating that new rotors have on them so they will not rust from condensation in the air while they were in storage. Clean both sides and wipe dry with a shop rag. Place the new rotor on the hub and make sure to line up the retaining screw hole in the rotor to the hub. Replace and tighten the retaining screw.
  7. Step 7 Replace the caliper anchor and bolts and tighten tightly. Replace the pads into the caliper anchor in the same manner you removed them. Replace the caliper over the pads and rotor and replace and tighten the caliper slide bolts. Replace the plastic covers.
  8. Step 8 Replace the wheel and lug nuts and tighten the lug nuts so they are flush. Lower the Mazda6 and torque the lug nuts alternately with the torque wrench, set at 80 foot-pounds and the 21-mm socket. If you raised both sides of the front axle, wait until you've replaced the right side rotor, otherwise repeat Step 2 through Step 8 for the right side.
  9. Step 9 Pump the foot brake pedal until it feels normal to restore the hydraulic pressure back to the compressed caliper pistons. Release the parking brake.
  10. Step 10 Check and add new DOT 3 brake fluid to the master cylinder and replace the cap securely. Close the hood. Remove the wheel chock and test drive

Do the front brake rotors on a 2000 Accord need to be pressed off?


Hi:
The front rotors don't need to be pressed off. Once your brake calipers are removed, the rotors will come off of the front hub. Some have a couple of countersunk screws that hold them in place, and they are between the wheel mounting studs. If your rotors won't come off easily, some tapping with a hammer on a block of wood on the back side of the rotor should help, as often they can get stuck around the wheel studs.

1994 Isuzu Pickup replace rotor, caliper, repack wheel barrings.


Remove caliper, then the caliper bracket that supports the pads and caliper. The rotot should have one or two threaded holes near the lug nut studs. You install a bolt here (Correct thread pitch) and thread it in to "pop" off the rotor. (They are usually rusted on.)
Keep in mind that the new caliper needs to have the brake fluid bled.

How to removal front rotor 2001 jeep grand cherokee


Normally, to remove a front rotor you remove tire, then must remove the caliper.

To remove caliper, there are two screws that the caliper is secured with that are accessed from the back side of the caliper. Unscrew these, pull all of the way out. The caliper should then be free to be slid out of it's position and off of the rotor. You'll need to support the caliper somehow. Most magazine show using heavy wire to hang it, I often take a small bucket upside down to set it on so the brake hose is not stressed.

Most front wheel drive & I think 4-WD vehicles, the rotor will slip right off. If not and there is a grease cup covering the center of the hub, will need to pop this off with a screw driver. Then remove the retaining clip that is inserted thru the threaded shaft to prevent the nut that is exposed from working it's way loose. Remove the nut, and now the rotor will come right off.

Re-assembling this nut at the right torgue is a key to getting everything back together properly. Too tight, you burn up the bearings and hurt fuel economy. Too loose and the tire wobbles, excessive wear, lot of issues.

HOW TO CHANGE REAR ROTORS ON A 2004 MITTSUBISHI ENDEAVOR


Take the wheel off.

Remove the two 14mm bolts holding the caliper bracket on.
They are the two farther inboard, behind the hub.

Slide the caliper and its bracket off the rotor and support it so you do not strain the brake hose.

Slide the rotor off.

If the rotor is stuck/rusty, you take take a hammer and tap on the hub section of the rotor to loosen it.

REPLACING FRONT HUB STUDS FOR A 98 HONDA PRELUDE


To remove that hub you will destroy the bearing. Because you have to remove it with a slide hammer. It is not necessary to remove the hub to change the studs. Remove the caliper, caliper bridge and rotor. Using a hammer simply knock out the stud or studs you want to replace. Put new stud in and using a sleeve that has a bigger diameter than the stud (I use a big nut, like the one on the axle) put big nut over stud and screw lug nut on stud and tighten until head of stud is flush with hub. Re-install rotor, caliper bridge and caliper. Hope this helps.

Replacing the rear rotors on a 2003 E320


So this is what it takes to replace rear brake rotors on a 2003 Mercedes E320;
1) open the bonnet (hood) of the car and loosen/remove the cap off of the brake fluid resevior.
2) remove outer spring clamp from brake assembly (it clips in to the iner edge of the holes of the caliper).
3)using a 7 MM allen wrench, remove the brake caliper.
4) using 18 MM box wrench, remove the caliper housing assembly off of the wheel hub.
5) using a star wrench, unscrew the rotor locking screw from the rotor
6) squirt some liquid wrench on the rotor hub and knock the rotor with a hammer to work the liquid wrench in.
7) using the same hammer, knock the rotor off the hub.
8) using a metal file, lightly file old residue off of the hub and place the new rotor on the hub.
9) set the hub by screwing in the lug nuts and then screw in the hub locking screw using the star wrench, then remove the lug nuts.
10) reinstall the caliper housing assembly onto the wheel hub using the 18 MM box wrench.
11) push back the brake claiper piston to its home position and install the inner brake pad (the one with the snap clips)
12) insert the outer brake pad in the claper housing assembly.
13) slide on the caliper housing with the inner brake pad in place (over the outer brake pad) and screw in the caliper screw rods using the 7 MM allen wrench
14) on the right wheel brakes, DO NOT FORGET to slide in the brake sensor (the one with the black connector) and connect it to the connector on the caliper housing.
15) be sure to reinsert the spring clamp onto the outer brake assembly to set the assembly squarely onto the wheel (there should be no wiggle in the brake assembly after the spring clamps are installed).
16) finally mount the wheels.
17) you can bleed the brakes at this point to release any trapped air (which is unlikely) but be sure to pump the brakes after starting the car BUT BEFORE MOVING IT to re-preassurize the brake system before driving the car.
17) ONE WEEK LATER - recheck brake assembly to ensure all is okay and brake fluid.

This proposed solution is for a 2003 Mercedes Benz E320 and NOT a 2005 model as stated by the limited option selection provided by FIXYA.com when initially describing the problem.
